I'm thinking about starting South University. Is there anyone here attending and if so, how do you like the program. How are the classes formatted? Also, has it been difficult for anyone earning an online degee with NP to find a job? Thanks.

Hi Jen I was hopping to get some information regarding their program also, I recently applied for HCC's Nursing program, but wanted to keep my options open, and wanted to hear other opinions on South U becaue the reviews for Galan online were so horrilbe. Hopefully somebody will find us at sea and bring us back to shore lol...

Hi. I went ahead and began the application process. I saw the 50/50 reviews also but many time I have found that people usually only go online and rate something when they are upset. I talked to someone in admissions and really liked what I heard. The lady emailed me tons of extra information that was not available online. There classes are "one at a time" with the theory like classes 5 1/2 weeks and more challenging classes 11 weeks. You may have up to a 29 day break between classes if you want or you can jump back in. Most books are available in their online library as an ebook for free. They are working on all books being available this way. The program lasts 2 1/2 years and they are ccne accredited. (I checked this myself). The school will also help you find places for clinicals if you are having a hard time doing so.

Hope this information helps you :)

I enrolled in the FNP program last september. I really like the instructors, they treat you like adults. The one thing I had trouble getting used to was the quarter system instead of semesters. The tuition is priced per quarter, so you can take up to 18cr for the same price. I elected to take allo my courses at the campus instead of do the online course. Some of friends took online courses and said they wouldnt take them again.

Thank you tutucathy for responding! Did you have to find your clinicals before you were accepted? This is driving me nuts. I personally think it's a weeding out process but I want in!

I am a current student at South University-Columbia on campus and on line, and I love this college! There are 4 semesters a year. South calls them quarters, but don't let that fool you. They are 10 weeks with 4 plus hours in class per week equaling out to a 14 week semester anywhere else I have attended college before. On line classes are 5 1/2 weeks per course in some, others can be 11 weeks depending on which subject. I personally like campus over on line myself.

South does have NP programs on campus and I hear rumor (nothing put in print for students as of yet) that a NP program might be added here in Columbia. I have my fingers crossed!

You can be finished with a BSN in 7 quarters. Thats 1 year 9 months in the BSN program (if you have completed pre requirements in your undergrad and do not hold a current RN).

The instructors are amazing! I have even worked as a Cert. Medical Assistant for one of the Nurse Practioner's that teach here now. I can't say enough wonderful things about SU (Columbia). Every Professor I have worked with cares that we succeed and will go out of their way to help. This has been great for me and I will continue past my BSN with South University.

I can't speak for the other campus', but Columbia campus is worth a visit if at all possible.

Jennabean I recently completed the RN to BSN online program in January 2012 and I can tell you I was never sorry that I went to South University. The instructors were all top notch and they understood that the majority of the students were juggling ful time jobs while trying to attend school. It was abgreat program. If I had to choose one negative thing of SUO it would be that they kept changing my class advisor every 6 months which was frustrating at times. I am considering their MSN nursing leadership program.

Thank you PAMaleRN! I actually applied to the MSN FNP program and started class Monday. So far, everything is good and the instructors are helpful.

I am really debating applying here. If anyone is currently in the FNP program would you PLEASE email me and let me know updates along the way? [email protected]. I am at a toss up between South University and Walden's FNP program.

Hey, how do you like it? I am starting in June I have my reservations about it. Are you liking the classes and etc. You can PM or whatever I just don't want to lose a lot of money.
