Simmons University School of Nursing FNP online program

Information on requirements for Simmons University FNP program. Nursing Students NP Students Article

Updated:

Here is some information I found about Simmons from my research:

The only states not approved are North Carolina, Tennessee, New York, and Delaware - but they are actively working with these states to gain state board approval.

The campus-based program has a 100% pass rate on the certification exam, this year is the first year they have offered the online program so no pass rate from that yet given, although the courses are taught by some of the same professors who teach the in-person courses.

Set up is the same as Georgetown University (they utilize the same online program for their school with the weekly courses live online, and the pre-recorded lectures and videos to watch on your own time)

18 months full time, 14wk terms with 2-3 wk break between each term, ONE campus visit required for skills assessment. 24mo part time, everything else the same as full time.

Admission Requirements:

The Nursing@Simmons application requires applicants to have or submit the following:

Bachelor's degree from a U.S. Department of Education and NLNAC or CCNE- accredited institution.

Current U.S. Registered Nurse (R.N.) license, and have successfully completed (83 or better) a three-credit course in statistics and health assessment.

Current resume.

One- to two-page personal statement that describes your academic interests, your relevant clinical experience, and your reasons for pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing.

Transcript(s) of your academic record (see below).

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), if your native language is not English. The School of Nursing and Health Sciences TOEFL code is 3761.

The General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required, but if you feel GRE scores will strengthen your application, please contact an Admissions Counselor at 855-461-SIMM (855-461-7466).

3 Letters of Recommendation From:

A clinical supervisor or nurse manager who has direct knowledge of your work in the clinical setting.

A professor, faculty member, or academic advisor who can provide a meaningful assessment of your academic record.

A practicing clinical nursing professional who has served as a mentor.

Sealed official academic transcripts must be received by mail from all postsecondary institutions you have attended, even if a degree was not obtained, including community colleges.

Applicants who studied outside of the United States must have completed the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree. All coursework from non-U.S. institutions must be evaluated by World Education Services.

Nursing@Simmons tuition is $1,385 per credit hour for students starting in the 2018-2019 academic year. (Tuition increasing in 2020 to $1,410.) Students will complete a total of 48 credit hours. A moderate increase in tuition should be expected each academic year. Tuition includes simulations, assessments, technology platform licensing and support. Tuition does not include the cost of books and a $100 student fee per term.

Personal Notes

They have been the NICEST admissions reps, not overly pushy, and very thorough with helping me get all my information incorrectly. I applied to Georgetown first, and they too were nice, but since submitting my app, I can't seem to get anyone to reply to me and I still do not have a decision yet. The University of Cincinnati is not good about getting back to you via phone but do usually get a response within 2-3 days to my questions. Of the three I'm honestly now more impressed with Simmons than any of the others, so I'm hoping in the next couple of weeks to get an acceptance. I really wanted GU, but Simmons is almost $40K cheaper for the same type of set up.

Hope this helps some others with their lists of schools they want to go to! ?

Does anyone know why they have not posted an itinerary for the March 6th-8th onsite? It makes it very difficult to make travel and accommodation plans when there is no idea whatsoever of what the schedule will be. I feel like Simmons could be much better with communication, that's for sure.

Just wondering,

Has anyone been accepted to Simmons that lives in MA? I have already applied and my application is now under review. I was told honestly though there is an extremely low acceptance rate for MA residents, due to the limited local clinical spots. The reason is that all local clinicals are given to on-campus students first. Which I know to be true, due to a friend of mine has already been denied. Has anyone been accepted who live in MA? Do you mind telling me your stats? How long after you applied did you hear? Any information you offer will be helpful.

If you live in MA apply to the brick and mortar program. You won't be disappointed.

Thank you BostonFNP,

That is 100% my goal. It's just so hard applying against distance /online learners. It seems Simmons takes "distance" learners first due to their limited local area clinical spots. I did also apply to BC, and currently applying to Umass Boston. I also heard Umass Boston, has a similar attitude with their distance learners. I'm not against being a distant / online learner, as I myself applied to distant colleges. Just hoping to gauge the acceptance rate. Simmons, was really my first choice. Still waiting to hear.

The Nursing@Simmons program and the Simmons brick and mortar program are different. Both are selective. If you live in MA then absolutely try and attend the long-established brick and mortar program, it is well worth it. The brick and mortar program has no preference for distance learners.

Question pertaining to applications with Georgetown and Simmons: I am pretty sure I had read on a board somewhere that Georgetown forwards the applications of those not accepted into the GU program to Simmons' admissions. Can anyone confirm this, or have any personal stories pertaining to this? I submitted my application to GU and am just waiting for the last letter of recommendation to arrive, and had started an application with Simmons, but if I can save time and energy by knowing everything I submitted would be forwarded anyway, I will.

I read that as well but the applications are basically the same. I did both and one other. I do know that they do not communicate with each other because after I declined the offer at Georgetown and accepted at Simmons I stil got a welcome pack with gifts from Georgetown. not sure what that was all about. They get so many applications I really can't see them bothering with an applicant they didn't accept. The programs are basically identical so if they didn't think you would make it at Georgetown it wouldn't be any easier at Simmons. By the way I chose Simmons because it is like Georgetowns program but 60k vs 80k. Food for thought.

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to know what are the length of all the classes?

How many times you have to long in every week?

Specializes in Intensive Care Unit.

One two hour live session each week for each class. You sign up for class times just like a regular class. The terms are 14 weeks.

Hi,

Not sure if you have started your application yet but I recently applied and completed my teqyirements (TOR, Resume, 3 letters of recommendation) 3rd week of January trying to mar the deadline for Feb 1 (for March Cohort) and fist week of February I received my acceptance letter. My BSN GPA was only 2.98 tried my best to write a good statement of Purpose and put together an imptessive resume that I was able to afford.

Good luck! You have a chance they look at your overall records, career, work experience etc.

What you heard is true. GU tells the applicants they have denied to try to Simmons. Also the two colleges share a similar platform for instruction as well as the application office. Simmons is able to pull your application from Georgetown so that you don't have to do the hard work of resubmitting transcripts so that you can get a preliminary acceptance letter before the schools send originals. They also accept the letters of recommendations you already have with GU.

Hoping to get accepted for March cohort!
