Hi guys, I'm new to the site and I'm sure this has been asked hundreds of times here already but I live in CA and I want to know if anyone knows, have done, or entering an online ADN to MSN-NP track this year?

I'm looking at several programs but seems like I still need to complete some prereq classes before actually entering the program (which obviously adds up to the cost and time).

Now I'm torn if I should go this way or complete my BSN first then go to BSN-MSN NP instead.

Any input are appreciated. Thanks!

OP: For you I have 3 words and a few more from the teachings of Tae Kwon Do. They are Focus, Focus, Focus.

First: start your nursing education at a ground school. Most students that start online nursing ASN or BSN don't do well for a variety of auditory, tactile and visual reasons. Now if you were already an ASN, online would be more reasonable as you already have done hands-on clinicals and know the nomenclature of the business. This is important because you don't want to get tripped-up sweating the small but essential stuff. Believe it or not most nurses actually do have a discrete knowledge and skill set that they sometimes forget they have because over time it becomes second nature and no big deal. But again, these things I trust are better learned with the give and take of classroom discourse with your instructors and fellow students. My assertion regarding this point of view I believe is evidenced by the fact that there are no online medical schools. The day that concept comes to fruition is the day I will believe in the Easter bunny.

One more thing. Do not for a second consider the for-profit schools such as those run by Education Management Corporation (South University) or those run by The University of Phoenix. They have terrible graduation rates, retention rates and for all their mediocrity and deception are very expensive. Case-in-point, South U. has an online grad rate of 10%. That's--well you decide.

Go to (collegescorecard.edu.gov)to evaluate potential schools of interest. Do not fall for representative's or recruiter's sweet talk. Again, throughly vet all schools. Education today is not in general the benevolent purveyor of knowledge as in years past. Lot's of sharks out there. Be careful.
