Passed AANP and ANCC on First Try: Here's How - page 2

I was looking for this kind of info when I was preparing to study, so I am hoping it'll be helpful. I initially took the Fitzgerald review course in January 2013 before the start of my final... Read More

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences and supporting those of us in preparation for certification. I was wondering if any one had to take the NP HESI prior to graduation. We are taking ours in November. I am hoping to take the AANP cert exam soon after. I'm wondering if it is a good trial run of the actual exam. If anyone took the NP Hesi prior to certification, I would appreciate your thoughts.
Thank you so much and congrats to those that passed and good luck to those preparing.

Not the OP, but I did both too and have never quite figured out how to swing it .

I use my state designation for rx etc, i.e. APRN. My resume reads "APRNlife, MSN, FNP-C, APRN-BC."

Would like to see a consolidation between the two at some point in the future. Each was a very different exam with unique content, and a single exam combining elements of both would be a good challenge. Plus I want to buck the nursing paradigm and aim for as few letters as possible after my name!

I took ANCC FNP on 9/19/2017. My prep for the exam included the very PRICEY FITZGERALD REVIEW which I do not believe helpful. At the June/2016 St. Louis MO conference there was no lunch provided, water refreshments ended each day about 11 am. Breakfast was minimal. We were not given any helpful direction on where to eat lunch in a dangerous neighborhood. Parking was a NIGHTMARE so everyone pretty much walked to lunch which on average was 20 minute walk. The list could go on. Many of us complained and got the water/soda refreshment chart returned each day in addition to cookies and pretzels. I could not believe this service was not included in a pricey conference automatically and not requiring the majority of the class (including 9 pregnant women) to complain in order to get professional service for our money. Additionally I purchased the fitzgerald CD's and additional cost QUESTION BANK. I FAILED my exam because very little information matched to the prep style questions. I was not looking for an exact match on any exam questions, however these are way off from the Fitzgerald prep. Also, I have worked as a licensed NP for 8 months. I felt confident to answere the medical questions. It is the non medical questions (lots of them) I was not prepped for at all. SUMMARY: DO NOT PURCHASE FITZGERALD REVIEW, BOOKS, CDS OR ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS. My current plan to retest is with the ANCC purchased questions.
