Has anyone undergone residency for NPs? How was your experience with this?

yes, I did one in neuroscience, with a focus on endovascular neurosurgery. It was an excellent program. I highly recommend them. I have interviewed with a few different programs before I decided to do the neuro one. I'm also university faculty and have had a few students go on to fellowship so I can attest to many of the programs.

it's especially beneficial and even more recommended Imo if you have limited RN experience or the specialty of interest is particularly challenging such as neuro.

it may also get potential employers to consider you when they otherwise would not. For example, a posting might require 2 years experience in pulmonology but if you did a pulmonology/critical care fellowship, that may well land you the interview anyway. What are you goals? Specialty of interest? Previous healthcare background/experience?

Thanks for asking that question; as a new NP I was looking to get a job that would build on my experience in fast paced environments. A specialty would be awesome. Are there any regions of the US that has more of a "glut" in terms of programs for nurses? I mean with medical students competing for the same knowledge and skills, what is "left over" for us?

brain related stuff is so cool. Couldnt imagine doing anything else for the rest of my life lol. Neuroscience is the bomb. Not a huge fan of gross anatomy but cant wait to take neuroanatomy in the spring.

me too! For Neuroscience Ph.D program that's obviously one of the many required courses. I think I'll have an advantage but I won't rest on my laurels. I look forward to it as well. I'm definitely a neuro geek

it's different. The places that offer us programs are usually committed so there's no issue

I would love to get into an emergency medicine or cardiology residency in the DFW area. I have only been able to find an emergency medicine one but its for ACNP, and I'm working on my FNP
