MSN to DNP-FNP? Are credits hard to transfer?

  1. Hello,
mom currently looking into doing my MSN-FNP, but I know that I would eventually want to go back for DNP.... was it hard to transfer credits? I was thinking of going to a school that only does MSN-FNP and then try and go for my DNP LATER ON with a different school. Are credits too hard to transfer? Or what should I do? Or Can I start the DNP program without credits needing to be passed?

You need to do more research. Not sure you understand MSN/FNP/DNP

I have done research, I know most people say you do not need a DNP after MSN, but I just want to eventually get my DNP. I'm looking to see if anyone on here has done their MSN and later went back to DNP

I did my DNP/FNP after completing my masters-entry RN at the same school (I actually graduate tomorrow), so I'm in a somewhat different boat than you. However, my understanding is that most schools have a separate track for DNP-completion and DNP-entry. As always, keep your syllabi, so that way you can minimize the additional academic courses for your second go-around.

Give them a call - I'm sure they also have a separate track for FNPs who want to complete their DNP.

Yes but finding schools that do DNP-FNP and MSN-FNP has its challenges, specially being a military wife who moves around a lot. May I know what school you are doing?

I'm at DePaul; we phased out the MSN/APRN path a few years ago, but have both DNP-Entry and DNP-Completion tracks available.
