Greetings!

Soooo after Georgetown kept haunting me to apply, I ended up not getting accepted. Waiting on Univ of Cincinnati (online) acceptance. I never knew graduate school would be this hard to get into. I never had issues with applying to a school I wanted and getting accepted. Feeling down, and needing a little encouragement.

The economy is down which means that people are flooding into grad school right now. This is especially true in healthcare, which is a field that still has relatively good pay and demand, overall. Nursing has definitely become very selective, especially advanced practice nursing. Plus, Georgetown is an excellent school that's going to attract very competitive applicants.

Good luck on U Cincinnati!

Thank you! UNIV of Cincinnatj takes up to 12 weeks to respond. It's a bit nerve racking. I found out about Georgetown within a few weeks. Being patient yet wondering if I should apply to other schools.

Thanks again for responding.

Hi

I would apply to others schools while you're waiting. Have you tried Frontier Nursing University. It is the leading school for FNP & CNM. They are competitive, especially for the FNP but they have classes starting about every 6 weeks. It is an online program which is great if you need to work while going to school. All your clinicals are at the end of the program & are done in your community. http://www.frontier.edu for more information

Good luck

No I haven't. About to go to their website now. Thank you!

It took them about 8 weeks to respond for me. My application was complete in mid March and got an acceptance letter via email two days ago to University of Cincinnati. I start Spring 2013 for Adult Nurse Practitioner Program. I do not know anyone who has completed or going through program.

I would apply to more schools. I was feeling the same way last year after I got a few denial letters. Even more discouraging was the fact that no one could give me a good reason for my denial. (I had 7 yrs critical care experience, CCRN certification, Nursing and last 60 credit GPA > 3.5, volunteer experience etc) I was told that there has been a huge increase in the number of applicants due to the economy and the misinformation related to the DNP recommendation.

I ended up being accepted into the last program I applied to and another school that rejected me for Fall admission accepted me for admission in the Spring. In the end, I applied to schools and I was accepted into two. I'm glad that I continued to apply programs otherwise I would have missed the opportunity to begin graduate education last year. A friend of mine was accepted after taking courses as a non-degreed student (something that was recommended to me by the director of admissions at one the schools that denied me as well).

Don't give up. Continue to advance yourself professionally by sitting for certifications, volunteering, etc. My favorite nursing professor would always tell me that I would end up where I was supposed to be. I had to remind myself of that several times during the application process. Good luck!!

Congrats!

SRDAVIS,

Did you have to take the GRE to get accepted to STL U? I have looking into them but their website states that the requirement is 3.2 and above. I too have a 3.1 Undergrad and was discouraged to learn of this. But your post brings me hope. :)

Thanks everyone! This definitely gives me hope! I dislike constantly going to my recommenders asking for letters:(

Will keep everyone updated! Good news soon to come.

Happy Nurses Week by the way:-)

itsnowbegun,

I am right there with you. I too was recently denied to Georgetown and it was quite a hit. I am looking into other schools as well and asking the same individuals for recommendations is a little embarrassing to say the least.

:)
