I have to make a choice between Texas Tech and SLU, can I get some feed back from past students about the program, cost, experiences or just anyone who knows something about these schools to help me make the right choice. Any response will be very much appreciated.

I don't know anything about Texas Tech but I am a SLU graduate, Jan 2010. I thought it was a very good program (although I don't have anything to compare to). The instructors are helpful. As in most programs you haved to find your own preceptors which was not an easy task.

The program was completely online except for one week that was required on campus for some hands on classes. I will say this, the program was good for the timeframe you have to learn what you need to know. Which is not near enough time. I was a nurse for 20 years before I became a FNP and I have to say I draw most of my knowledge in my practice from my nursing career not NP school. It's sad to say but there just isn't enough time to prepare a person for the real world, no matter what program you take. That is just my personal opinion.

It's very pricey and I have a large amount of student loans to pay back! I liked the fact that it was totally online except for the one week on campus. Also, they do not require the big end of program research thesis that mosts schools do and that really appealed to me.

I managed to work full time during the whole program but I had a job that allowed me the flexibility to work any hours I needed to get my forty hours in.

Don't know if this has helped or not! If you have any further questions feel free to ask!

Dixiecup,

I don't know if your post will help the OP but I found it helpful. I am considering SLU's ACNP program and have not found anyone who has been through it. Thanks for the info!
