Emergency Nurse Practitioner programs?

Hey all,

I'm beginning to get the itch to do something more with my BSN. I really like the idea of being an ENP, but I haven't found too many schools offering it specifically.

So far:

University of Texas - Arlington

University of Texas - Houston

University of South Alabama - College of Nursing

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing

Emory University School of Nursing

The rest that I found only mention Emergency Practitioner as an aside.

Now, I realize that an ACNP would prepare me for working in an Emergency Department, but I wonder if doing a specific ENP-focused program would be better.

Anyone out there with experience in this field?? Anyone out there attend or are planning to attend these programs who would provide some insight??

Lastly, what kind of salary could you expect in this field? I've seen $70-$85k per year.

Thanks again!

RN, BSN

There is a big-time need for ER NPs' to work Locums- 7on7off and 14on14off for Indian Hospitals in South Dakota & AZ.

They are not concerned with ARNP/FNP they are looking for DEA, BLS, ACLS & PALS and will take a license from any state...

one rout you may consider is family nurse practitioner, as you probably know it will allow you to work with all age groups. regarding the transition into the er, most er take fnp's. also what is your background as a rn , if you have icu, er, ccu, flight you should be able to transition without too much trouble.

my background is neuro, peds, icu, er, and flight before going to grad school, i work occ / employee full health time in an industrial plant but still work a few days a month in the er. being a fnp will allow you to work anywhere but some times np's run into problems finding a job if the are an acute care, or peds-np because of the age or because of how the job description is worded.

good luck
