Denied from np program

I am dissapointed and heartbroken. I applied to FIU in Miami's Psych NP program and was sent a denial letter. Just a background o me: 3.6 GPA, BSN, Med Surg nurse for 1 year, had to do my interview via SKype because I was on honeymoon during that time, didnt get a physical panel interview, applied to only this school this year. Next year, i intend to apply to all the FLorida NP programs, unlike this year. But it still hurts. Do not wanna be stuck on Med Surg floor forever...any advice, anyone?

I am sorry about that I am starting the Bachelor's Generic Level program in August. I don't have much advise to give because I'm not even a nurse lol Perhaps to have some extracurricular activities in your résumé as well as leadership experience. And to take some easy electives to boost that GPA up some more. I know FIU is very competitive even with their Bachelor' program. Just wondering why do you not want to be in Med-Surg any longer?

I am sorry you didn't get itn. If I was you I would ask the school what you could do to make your application stronger for next year. I will say I have known many nurses that have applied to NP school with only 1 year experience, were denied, and applied a year later with more experience and were accepted. You may honestly just need more experience to make your application pop out

Ummm if you are interested in psych, maybe it would help if you worked psych??

Sorry it didn't work out. Keep trying!

I had my heart set on UPENN when I first applied to MSN. I had a great GPA (#2 in my class) and references, but only 6 months RN experience. I didn't get in. Luckily I applied to 2 schools and go into my 2nd choice. I am very happy in my current school and am now glad that I didn't get into my 1st choice. Everything happens for a reason. Just reapply, learn from where you are, and all will be well.

Apply at as many schools as you can. I started applying this year and have been rejected by 2 schools. I am waiting on an answer from the 3rd school. I talked to a contact person, for the program I am most interested in, and she told me to retake the GRE and reapply next year. If I don't get in this other program, I plan to retake the GRE to improve my chances. I thought I would apply and be accepted. I did not realize that each program has a limited number of seats b/c most are online. When I went back to school to get my BSN, I applied and was accepted. However, some schools have hundreds of applications for their NP programs. Also, I believe enrollment is up due to the 2015 deadline that may take place with the requirement for DNP to be a NP.
Good Luck and don't give up.

Hey I wanted to let you know that there is no nationwide requirement for new NPs to get a DNP in 2015. This is merely a recommendation, not a requirement. Many top schools like UPenn and UCSF don't even offer DNPs.

I pray it continues to be a recommendation.

UCSF is moving to adopt the DNP, but will not be abandoning the MSN, if I recall correctly.
