Can a FNP specialize?

  1. 0 Would a Family Nurse Practitioner be able to specialize in a specific field of nursing? Specifically, L&D, pediatrics, gerontology, etc. Would a post-master's certificate be enough to specialize, or would more schooling be necessary? I'm looking to apply to a FNP program, and I was just curious what my options would be afterwards. Thank you so much!

The FNP I work with told me just yesterday that students select preceptors based on their area of interest. Some sites are required but others are up to you. She said students did indeed focus on the area they wanted to specialize in. I'm in the same boat. Good luck and keep me posted.
