hi,

i just joined allnurses.com. i took the psychiatric adult np exam with ancc... didn't pass the first time. i took the barkleys review course and it didn't help at all! i reviewed the course religiously and looked over it 3 times and guess what? 90% of the exam was on something totally different nothing related to what barkley reviewed...very dissapointed! i also took the ancc review course and it didn't help much either. so my question to my colleagues out there, is there any review out there that really gives realistic test question examples that can help one pass the boards? your help is greatly appreciated.

Dear Ralph 41. I saw your post and was hoping to ask you some questions and anyone who may help. Please send answers to [email protected]. I just completed my MSN and am waiting to take my psych NP certification board with ANCC. I get test anxiety really bad. I am trying to find a site that has questions like the ones on the ANCC test. Does anyone know if they are out there?

Ellen, I purchased two sets of tests from ANCC to practice my psych NP certification test. Do you think the questions from the ANCC purchased are the same ones on the boards? My email is [email protected]

Hello Sweetshy41, I am getting ready to take my psych NP boards and I like you have difficulty with tests. I am trying to find out if the ANCC practice questions are ones on the exam. Did you get to pass then? My email is [email protected]

I am sorry to hear you took it 4 times. It took me quite a few just to pass the RN NCLEX and now I am also worried about the Psych NP exam. Were you able to find anything that was similar that worked? My email is [email protected]

The ANCC questions you buy online are the best in terms of how the questions are styled. I felt the content on the real exam (that I passed yesterday!! first time) was different - more vague and broad - a lot of clinical stuff (meds, neuro, illness) but also quite a bit of therapy, ethics, legal, scope stuff too. When I hit "end exam" I was sure 75% sure I had failed. I won't say it was hard because I have had much more challenging exams. But not easy either. It's about critical thinking and the BEST option. So, it's not concrete, and I think a lot of us APRNs are type A people, and we like concrete. We like the "right" not "best" answer. But, I suppose medicine is about picking the best option, and one has to be flexible....right? Make sure you read the questions and pay close attention to words like "initial" and "intervention." The beginning of the ANCC manual has some guidance on this, and I believe a box in shaded grey with words to look for.....like in the preface or chapter 1.

Thanks for this information guys. It's good to have an idea of what to expect and what resources to use when I take the test--hopefully next year :)

Hi there, I was wondering if you passed the exam? I know the post is very old. But I took the PMHNP exam recently and failed? Any advice? I know the exam has changed since you took it but any advice would be helpful? On my exam there were a lot of community nursing question, quality improvement questions, etc which I did not feel were covered in the ANCC review book.

Thank You

Hi Madeinheaven,

I was wondering if you were able to pass the test? I took the PMHNP test recently and did not pass. Any advice would be helpful? I studied from the ANCC review book and bought review questions from anccprep.com I got a 340 and needed a 350 to pass.... I had a difficult time with all the clinical management questions, quality improvement questions, etc. I am so devastated because I really studied and thought i was ready. :(

Hello guys I took the exam afew weeks ago and I did not pass, my question is for those who passed it on the 2nd attempt or those who just know the answer. Are the questions basically the same or am I to expect totally different questions on the 2nd attempt of this exam? please I would be greatful if anyone can shed some light into this for I am sitting for the exam in afew days

My understanding is that it will be essentially the same. They always vary from test to test.

Thanks Ellen, anybody else pass it on the 2nd attempt? can share if they care across same basic questions or totally different questions and question types.

I actually passed the first time but know others who passed on the 2nd.
