Advanced Practice Nurse- Goal Statement

i have a rough draft that i would love to receive feedback (positive criticism) on. i am getting my application together for the np program and have found difficulty in expressing myself with this goal statement. please lend me your receommendations. thanks. here it is:

[color=#102614]the mission of nursing in society is to help individuals, families and groups to determine and achieve their physical, mental and social potential, and to do so within the challenging context of the environment in which they live and work. this requires nurses to develop and perform functions that relate to the promotion and maintenance of ideal health as well as the prevention of illness.

my goal is to provide healthcare to families in a primary care setting as well as offering teaching in areas of health promotion, chronic disease management, and disease prevention. [color=#102614]continually protect the well being of the patients and the future of nursing. i want to empower people to take control of their own health. i also plan to assist in eliminating health inconsistency by obtaining a position in a community clinic serving vulnerable families and by volunteering my services to healthcare foundations. lastly, my long term goal is to obtain a doctorate in nursing in order to deliver better patient outcomes and to be equipped for future healthcare changes. being an adult nurse practitioner (anp) will allow me to expand my role and better serve my community by advocating for vulnerable, high risk adult populations while improving the quality and safety of health care systems.

post graduation, i would seek employment at either a clinic or hospital that has a program enabling the facility to provide services to uninsured patients, but whom equally need the care. i have visited a particular clinic that provides services with this uninsured program and the way the patients are treated because of their financial standpoint is very disturbing. this behavior was evident from the front desk encounter to the md. i would take the opportunity to ensure that the patients are treated with dignity and respect. i would utilize membership with the tennessee nurses association council of advanced practice nurses to participate in foundations/conferences to better perform as a patient advocate and to ensure the viability of all nursing practices.

another benefit of the knowledge i will possess is that i would volunteer to go to the community's schools to teach children and adolescents of the risk factors of developing cardiovascular disease. this is an overwhelming and devastating disease that affects our family at a younger age every year. knowledge is power and awareness is the first defense. this will in turn help prevent those very children from developing the disease later in adulthood or greatly minimizing the amount of those who develop the disease. children are our future so why not secure theirs with ideal health. i feel this career will assist in my mission to improve knowledge deficit and increase awareness of the #1 disease in america.
