Where are all you SC nurses?

U.S.A. South Carolina

You never here much from nurses in SC. Are there not that many on this board or have I just missed you all?

It would be nice to hear about experiences here in SC.

Perhaps we should introduce ourselves.

I am a student in Charleston, just moved here with my family to attend nursing school. We plan on staying here after I graduate instead of moving back to Myrtle Beach.

I am in Myrtle Beach, but am considering moving to the Charleston area. I was there this past week and fell in love. Currently brainstorming on a job. Don't get me wrong, I love M.B. but there is a different atmosphere in Charleston, and I am sooo tired of driving on 501!

Our son and DIL lived on James Island for about 2 1/2 years and loved it!! It was pretty expensive-housing I mean- but you can't beat Charleston for atmosphere! I think they'd go back in a heartbeat.

MB hasn't ever been one of my faves, but I haven't been there in years so I really can't give an educated opinion.

SIL and her hub live in N. Charleston.....not my cuppa tea either, Niece and her family live in Mt Pleasant....but the bridge construction would make that an awful commute I'm afraid.

Getting away from 501 makes it all worth while.

Get this-there are alternate routes in Charleston!!!! Can you believe it?!!

Also, unlike Myrtle Beach, everything isn't always about what the tourists are going to think or how the tourists will be affected.

Nice to have the community focus at least a little on the actual residents.

Charleston is refreshing after so many years of MB.

501...so true! The last time I went to MB (garden city actually) we found it easier to just go down 17 to Georgetown! It was such a nice ride we went on to Charleston and back up I 26.

The distance was almost 50% longer BUT the time was over an hour shorter!!!!!

For any SC wannabees don't forget there is also Columbia and the Greenville/Spartanburg areas, Florence and Aiken areas. All have good environment and good healthcare facilities.

PLUS it doesn't (usually) SNOW in most of them!!! Like today November 5 was 84 degrees!!!

I'm here in Upstate SC... Charleston is my second facorite place to visit... I love the mountains first!

I am an Assistant Nurse Manager for an ob/gyn unit at a local hospital in Columbia. Anyone interested in a job?

I would like to know how may facilities have LDR to Postpartum units. And how many are Postpartum and GYN combo units., with 29 beds?

What are your guidelines and criteria for transferring a delivered patient out to the floor:

Hey I just found this forum. I relocated to SC with my husband in 1999. Spent 10 years in classroom and principal of schools.Incidentally started out in nursing in 1980 but felt it wasn't for me. Actually in ADN program with my mother who was kicking my butt. She was getting A's to my C's. So left out of program worked in research labs for 8 years and then into classroom. One year after I was principal of schools, worked in the school to career tract in Health Occupations. My students asked me to take a career placement survey with them and it scored me in areas of health such as nursing. Made the decision in 2001 to pursue a BSN. Will graduate in December 2003. I hope to stay in SC for now. I am looking at MSN degree in next year and then from there I am not sure.

Strong RN,

Tell me more about hospitals in Columbia. I am looking for places to work now but i graduate in may 2003. Im in school in Winston Salem, NC but i'm feeling an itch to work in SC. I really want to work in pediatrics and i wanted to start out in a big hospital to get some good experience. Any advice would be great!!

Hi. I just found this forum. I live near Greenville, SC. I have been an RN for 9 years. I have worked on Long Term Care for most of those 9 years.

Hi TwinRn,

I saw that you were interested in the columbia area and specialty in pediatrics. Palmetto Richland Memorial Hosptial has a Childrens Hospital within it. They have the pediatric floor and also a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The other hosptials in the Columbia are do not focus on children as much as Richland. It is also a very large hospital compared with the surrounding hospitals with approximately 700+ beds. http://www.palmettohealth.com

Good Luck!!!

Hey Nurses, You make S.C. sound so much better than N.C. Does anyone want to adopt an older woman that is trying to be a nurse? Ha, just kidding. The warm weather and no snow sounds sooo good after a snow last week, that is still hanging on for the next one. Tell me about the ADN schools there in S.C. if you have a few minutes and I could be convinced to move down in a heart beat!!! Thanks, Cay
