MUSC ABSN Fall 2013

U.S.A. South Carolina

I recently applied for priority admission to the Fall 2013 Accelerated Nursing Program at MUSC. I started this thread to makej contact with anyone else that may have applied priority or is planning on applying regular admission for Fall 2013. Anyone out there?

@goldilockz Thanks for the info, I have heard several people complain about the difficulty of Trident's program. I've already completed all courses for my rn-bsn, except chemistry, which I'm taking summer. I agree, the only reason why I applied to MUSC was because I heard they are very involved with their students, and you're right, Trident doesn't care if you pass, or fail, your're pretty much on your're own. Guess I'm going to have to sacrifice not expecting a job in the hospital after graduation and continue another year for my rn-bsn.

@godilockz Do you know if Trident's program offer health insurance for their program.

I'm not sure, but I know they require you to have health insurance.

@ Thanks!:)

@ babygyrl9706..... I actually researched into this. I am going to need insurance once I resign from my job to start school. @ Trident you would have to join the Student Nursing Association, membership is $15.00 and you can get health insurance through them.

@Belle83 Thanks! I've looked into it yesterday, and will be turning in an application.

Hello,

It looks like a lot of you have some good experience and information about applying to MUSC. I have a 3.4 overall GPA and about a 3.0 science GPA. I will be applying with a BS in Community Health from the University of Maryland. I'll also have about 150 volunteer hours by the end of the summer. However, I have heard that being out of state can be a problem when trying to get accepted into MUSC. My GPA definitely isn't the best, but do you think that they take into account where I went to school?

Lastly, how did you approach the essay that is only 100 words? I have a lot of life experience that prepares me to be a nurse, but how do you talk about all of that in 100 words?

Any advice from people who have recently applied or have been accepted would be amazingly helpful. MUSC is my dream school, and I want to do all that I can to get in there! Thank you all so much; I hope things are going well for you!

This is a pretty active thread...glad to see that! I am actually a current student and will be graduating from MUSC with my BSN December 7. please let me know of any help or to tips I can provide! Congrats to all those beginning the program soon..hope to see you next month!

Hello all! I see there is a lot of conversation on this thread so I have a few questions! I have not applied for nursing school yet and I do not plan on applying until this December with a start time of Fall 2014! When I apply I will have over 60 hours of volunteer hours at Trident Medical Center, and a lot of other volunteering from my past while in high school. I will have a 3.58 overall gpa, a 3.5 science gpa, and a 3.78 pre req gpa. I will still have a semester of classes left though including Anatomy & Physiology 2, Anatomy & Physiology 2 Lab and two electives. My reference forms will be coming from my general manager at the hotel that I work for, my high school volleyball coach as well as teacher, and most likely the 3rd will be from my volunteer supervisor. For the people who have gotten accepted...do you know what my odds would be? I fear rejected and I just really want to get in! My husband is in the military so I will be considered "in-state" if that matters at all either!

@randi: keep volunteering! I too am a military spouse but got rejected the first time I applied because I had no volunteer hours and/or medical experience. I have my BS in biology, cum 3.8 with 4.0 pre req, scored full points on my essay and had great recs. I have been volunteering around my job at a hospital and hospice in hopes that this time, I will be accepted in to the program!

They definitely look at applicants as a whole- they want you to be well rounded. GPA plays a role but is not the deciding factor.. People with 3.2s have been accepted over 4.0 students because of other things that have made them stand out.

Good luck!

I just applied for ACC BSN @ MUSC spring 2014. I was wondering if anyone knows when I should expect to hear back from them. I do not qualify for priority admission. I just want to know if I should keep taking classes while I wait (fall 2013) or if I should just work and save money ... Any information would be greatly appreciated!

The deadline is Sept 15 so you probably shouldn't expect to hear before at least the end of October.. I applied this past spring and deadline was mid January and did not hear until the 3rd week of march. Just depends on how many applicants they have to sort through!
