U.S.A. South Carolina

Published

hi, i am an lpn. does anyone know a good agency or part-time place to work like for prn or weekends even?

i have been looking for a while. i just moved here from wa state but i have my license now to practice here in sc. i have excellent references too plus 4 years experience. help thank you so much for any replies!!! :heartbeat:redbeathe:heartbeat

just curious about why you moved to area? washington is a long way from columbia, sc!

i know some good hospitals in columbia, but i don't think they are hiring lpns.

I moved b/c my hubby got a job here and I am originally from FL. and I wanted to be closer to all my family.

Well, I have an interview at a cardiology office today.

Wow! You are far away from your previous home. Some people move due to boyfriends or husbands job move or they are military. Have you done any online job searching in your field? I know there is one for health care but forgot the website! :uhoh3: Maybe you can google "LPN" jobs or "licensed practical nurse" jobs.

One you can try is www.indeed.com while www.careerbuilder.com is pretty good since most job ads are online and not in papers as much anymore. :) Have you gone to the Veteran's Hospital on Garner's Ferry Road to inquire? Or have you been on Ft. Jackson military base near Leesburg Road or Ft. Jackson (Walmart exit off I-77) to visit Montcrief Hospital? Make sure BEFORE you go to the base, have an up-to-date driver's license, license place and current tag, automobile insurance card, and your automobile registration card. Any inconsistencies will be questioned if you have some things SC and others WA. Tell them you are there to find out about employment at Montcrief Hospital IF they ask. They may send you to their employment office instead. Montcrief may do the same thing. It's no big deal where you're sent, just make sure you get peoples names with phone numbers and e-mail addresses and/or business cards with their info to call back to them.

Were there any leads at the Employment office?

Did you try Doctor's Care? :yeah:

What about Lexington Medical Center's main campus and other branches, did you go to them? :)

Have you tried temporary agencies found in the telephone book or online at www.local.com ?

Make sure you have a really great resume! There is such help at the Employment Office. It needs to have "stand outs" and be catching enough to grab one's attention :lol2: as you would be one of many, many they receive.

After you have visited certain places and have business cards employers gave you or you asked for, don't forget to send them a thank you card for the interview or send an e-mail of thanks with highlighting the conversation or interview. :) Even if no one calls back, call them or go back for a re-visit in 2 weeks to show how much you want the job or want to work with them. ;)

They will ask you why you left WA for SC. They want to make sure you don't go on with them and then quit to go back to WA. That's how employers work and think. Have a good reason. :uhoh3: If you say for my boyfriend, that won't sound very well. Come up with something good and truthful and short and move right along continuing the conversation. Make sure you do your homework about the organization you plan to work for or want to check out. Take folders with you to each place for information to study up on notes you took at home or online and for dropping off a resume with cover letter and to place their business card. Folders I am thinking of are those ones in different colors that have places inside to hold information on the right side and left for under $1.00.

I hope you find the place you want to work at and do well! :)

Specializes in general surgical, women's surgery.

I'm an RN with a BSN and work at Lexington Medical Center. 'Great place to work, but I don't think they are keen on hiring LPNs any longer. Some of the LPNs who have been there for a long time actually now work as nurse techs. I think there are a few younger LPNs who recently acquired their LPN license simply b/c they completed most of nursing school at the local tech college that allows them to take LPN boards after the 3rd semester of clinicals. They are continuing to work towards their RN, but can work as an LPN in the meantime, if administration allows the pay increase.

If you go to http://www.lexmed.com you will find a few LPN jobs available in doctor offices owned by the hospital. You can apply online.

Specializes in Alzheimer's, Hospice, Med-Surg, Psych.

Favorite Healthcare 111 Executive Center Drive Cola, SC 803.798.4022 ask for Karen Turgeon or Tanisha.

Specializes in ORTHOPAEDICS-CERTIFIED SINCE 89.

I'd try Lexmed in a skinny minute, but as the above stated do NOT say you're following the love of your life. You wanted to try the "right coast" you wanted to see where your ancestors came from, you have heard all about our zoo for pete's sake. SC is a beautiful state and has everything and I mean everything the megalopolis' have just in manageable form.

great info u guys posted here! im getting ready to move to sc due to my boyfriends new job (fingers crossed). thank u all!

Thank you for this nice reply! Do you know I am still looking!!! You are right! The interviews I have been on ALL wanted to know why I am in SC!!! It's b/c of my husband and his job and I am originally from FL! All my family lives in Jacksonville, FL so this is MUCh closer! My husband is a CPA for the USDA. I did apply at the military base but do you know they want to pay 11-12 an hour!!! YIKES!

hi, i moved because my husband is a cpa and got a job here with the usda. he is from wa not me...we just moved there because his dad was ill and my husband wanted to be close to him in his last years...he did eventually die. "not the love of my life"...my husband (same diff but u know what i mean)...also i am a florida native, all my family lives in jacksonville, fl. and my grandmother was a creek indian right from the northern florida area...so when i say florida native...i really mean it! no one in the interview wants to hear all that though. they just question me like i am running from the law or something. it's so weird! i say to be closer to family and b/c of my husband's job and they look at me weird! i am getting so frustrated!

Why did you respond?? If they will not hire me then why would you even suggest??

why did you respond? you are rude. i am not an rn i am an lpn. i have no deisre to be an rn. your response was like saying..."well there are some good hospitals...but, they won't hire you." i am so sick of rude people. i am a grown woman who happens to be a lpn. we are sill employable and needed. your lack of respect and arrogance really shows in this reply.
