In fact, medicare has the best hospice provision. It is going bankrupt because the money that was supposed to be earmarked for medicare was spent elsewhere by irresponsible elected officials who banked on not having to use it themselves.
Most of the arguments against healthcare reform are based in fear that is being sown and grown by partisan opponents of this administration and by corporate interests afraid of losing huge profits. We cannot sustain a health system that consumes such an enormous portion of our GNP each year with such poor results. It is time for change.

Rank-and-file' Americans are not 'practiced' in Town Hall forums, nor even interfacing with their representatives. They work, shrug their shoulders at Dems or Repubs, and go back to what they believe is really important.
But the runaway govt spending that is occurring has them concerned -- and the health care debate has some panicky. The media sound bite coverage doesn't do the process justice. It's not smooth, most of it is not organized -- but it IS real.
Health care cost reform is tip of the iceberg for what concerns many citizens.
Whether it is government or insurance firms or pharmaceuticals -- there's plenty of corruption to go around. In the end, I want them ALL out of my pocket.
Much as I'm weary of the sensationalism, I'm hoping for this debate to continue until some root cause issues are addressed.

I believe that something should be done about the cost of health care in this country, but allowing the government to get its hands on it is not the answer and the point you made is a great reason why. Medicare is going bankrupt because of corrupt politicians, both democrats and republicans, spending the money elsewhere, just like they did and are currently doing with social security. Our government has one of the worse track records in regards to programs like this and it appalls me that so many people are just so willing to allow them to do so without attempting other measures first.
