Notice the countries with the highest personal income taxes are those who have adopted universal health care plans. Do you really want $.50 of every dollar you earn being turned over to the government?
Claude Castonguay is the architect of the Canadian health care system. He championed this system in the 1960's and now says that it is in ruins. His solution: "We are proposing to give a greater role to the private sector so that people can exercise freedom of choice."

What I really want is help stop Americans from dying from lack of health insurance....

Here is a chart showing what other countries really pay in taxes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_rates_around_the_world

Here is a great website showing how other countries have implemented national health care: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...oryId=91972152

We have socialized education, socialized police and fire, and socialized postal system. Why not socialized health care?

How do I get to pay only 29% tax....I am single and pay 37% fed. tax and am lucky to live in a state with no state income tax... I think those numbers are a little off, or I am just being really screwed when it comes to tax... I have a single friend in the U.K. and her tax is alot lower than mine... She pays in about 29.5% per year!! which is still high, but she does have medical coverage at no cost out of pocket!! If we could have all the people in the country covered, I wouldn't care if I payed the same as i do now or even a little more... Insurance and pharm. companies have made enough money on the backs of americans..enough is enough!!! They can make less money. If they don't want to do that, then let them go somewhere else ...They both have sucked the medical industry dry.. It has to change.. How many pt's do we have to see that can't afford their medicines before we as a country do something about it?

It's very difficult to compare tax rates in different countries because each is providing a different menu of services, plus each provides different types of tax breaks, etc. besides, we pay more than the OP's table shows.

So when have you made enough money? How about I cap your income at say, $35,000 per year. That is more than enough to live on because I said so. Do you realize how dangerous it is limiting a private corporations profit? This isn't the USSR, or do you want it to be the Communist States of America?

The website from NPR does not count. NPR is blatantly liberal, there facts and figures are as corrupt as Hugo Chavez.
The Wikipedia article proves my point so I am unsure why you posted it. We have the highest standard of living throughout the world for a reason, less taxes. Universal health care WILL mean higher taxes for the working class, 100% guaranteed. Please stop listening to NPR and MSNBC.

How are you judging the "highest standard of living" with regard to health, though? The US does not really win any category of assessing health outcomes, despite its significantly larger expenditure than other first world countries.

No doubt, total universal coverage is not the answer - it's not financially sustainable. But a mixed private/public system absolutely is.

We limit corporation's profits all the time by dictating what they may and may not do according to corporate law. That doesn't make it a communist state. There is no room in a civilized society for "profit at any cost".

I'm from Australia. In Aus, I paid 37-43% tax for $80-100K income. In the US, it's around 35-40% (between federal, state and city taxes). However if I get hit by a bus in Australia, I won't go bankrupt paying my medical bills.

I love how you dismiss data that is "blatantly liberal" but then continue to spout "blatantly conservative" claims with no supporting evidence.

My father in law has been to the land down under several times. As he has said, it does not compare to these United States. We are the wealthiest nation on earth. We are the beacon of freedom for all the world, the gold standard among free peoples.
If I am hit by a bus in America, I will not go into bankruptcy.

Ummm....if you are hit by a bus in the US, need to be on life-support, spend two months in the ICU, you WILL go into bankruptcy unless you are independently wealthy.....I know a woman who is financially ruined due to an ICU stay of a month due to pneumonia. I know another man who is bankrupt because he had to put his wife into a nursing home, and all
'extra' income goes to same nursing home.......

As to tax rates.....we get what we pay for, don't we? If we as a society are not going to pay for services, we won't get them. I, too, am good with paying more in taxes (as long as those richer than I are paying more than I am, which currently they are generally NOT doing now) to ensure that someone doesn't have to go bankrupt to get the care they need. Greed and wealth at the expense of everyone else does not sit well with me, so I do not see an issue with limiting corporations and what they can make off of everyone else......
