Re: Country's with socialized medicine vs the USA (Personal Income Tax)
Actually, wowza, with all of my combined income, investments, and property.. I do pay about 35 to37% ...and most nurses in the area where i work make over 100k a year...not bragging, but since you want to try and figure/guesstimate how much i make a year...your figures were way off, but how i arrived at my tax bracket was at 37% with all my mutualfunds, stocks, investments...etc... I as well as other nurses i know who are single pay through the nose in taxes... All i was saying was, if we are going to pay that much in taxes then I would hope someone could benefit through a free healthcare system/ socialized system... Heck, I would be willing to smile every april, when i make the check out to the lovely IRS, instead of crying...lol If we had healthcare for every man, woman, and child in the U.S. That was all I was getting at in my post.. I didn't mean to confuse you with ..how was it that bush said..oh yeah...FUZZY MATH!!! not my intention at all... LOL.. Not trying to offend any ones politics.. Thanks!

Does this make any rational/logical sense at all? By the way, nothing stops you from writing a check to the federal government, you can, should you choose, pay more income taxes and make a donation to uncle sam at the end of the year if you think that he can spend your money better than you can. I dont know, perhaps some people actually would rather give the government money and expect them to spend it rather than spending that money themselves - for me, it makes no sense whatsoever.
First of all, a single-payer system would be much cheaper. And secondly, I've one of those pesky "pre-existing conditions", hence the cheaper aspect. It makes perfect sense to me. It's my guess that you don't trust the government with your healthcare. Fine, you don't have to because nothing currently being proposed will do away with private insurance companies.
I, on the other hand, don't trust private insurance companies.
It doesn't have to make sense for you.

Ah yes, the slippery slope. Just because our government might take a minor role in health care delivery, doesn't mean that we are going to become the USSR.

Re: Country's with socialized medicine vs the USA (Personal Income Tax)
No way as a nurse you pay 37% income tax rate. The rates are tiered up to a point then the money after that begins to be taxed at 37% but your actual federal rate would be lower than 37% especially since you claim to pay no state income tax. Pharmacy companies create new drugs take away the profit and you take away the incentive for new drugs. Originally Posted by traumamike How do I get to pay only 29% tax....I am single and pay 37% fed. tax and am lucky to live in a state with no state income tax... I think those numbers are a little off, or I am just being really screwed when it comes to tax... I have a single friend in the U.K. and her tax is alot lower than mine... She pays in about 29.5% per year!! which is still high, but she does have medical coverage at no cost out of pocket!! If we could have all the people in the country covered, I wouldn't care if I payed the same as i do now or even a little more... Insurance and pharm. companies have made enough money on the backs of americans..enough is enough!!! They can make less money. If they don't want to do that, then let them go somewhere else ...They both have sucked the medical industry dry.. It has to change.. How many pt's do we have to see that can't afford their medicines before we as a country do something about it? | | No. 48 |

Typical. Can't argue the facts so you shoot the messenger..."blatantly liberal" "corrupt as Hugo Chavez"? Aw, c'mon. Which facts and figures do you dispute? The doctors and nurses are saying the patient has cancer (or, if you will, a broken health care system) and someone like you says, please stop listening to those doctors, and those nurses, who by the way have been quoted extensively on NPR, MSNBC, and Bill Moyer's Journal on PBS in support of a single payer national health plan. So what's your solution? More corporate cronyism? More inhumanity and injustice and the highest rate of death from preventable/treatable causes in the modern industrialized world? | | 139 members
