  1. How does your unit secure IVs? (and feeding tubes, cannulas, etc)
I am really surprised at the amount of tape our Level III RNICU puts on our babies. I can barely assess peripheral IVs (forget seeing the catheter insertion site) because there is just SO much tape....

  2. Hoping to transfer to the RNICU...how do I make my app/cover letter stand out?
I'm a new nurse, currently working on a med/surg/tele unit that specializes in OB/GYN patients. I completed a 12 week residency program and then went to this unit, where I've been for 6 months....

  3. What was the lowest diastolic bp you have seen?
Mine. 66/32 after blacking out. That was actually when I was starting to feel better and snap out of it so I really don't know how low it went...but it felt terrible.

  4. Newer nurses with TOO much confidence?
When she follows you into a room, I would turn around and say "I'm fine in here, thank you". Just shut it down. Eventually her over-confidence is going to result in an error and you don't want to be...

  5. Anyone heard back from UCH new grad program yet?
No, I haven't. :crying2: I applied to one of the NICU postings as well. I sent an email asking if all interviews had ready been scheduled and didn't get a response. I'm thinking they got slammed with...

  7. Can NG Nurses take other hospital jobs (Hosp Assit, Unit Secretary)?
In my experience no one will want to hire you because like another poster said, they know you'll leave as soon as you find an RN position. I graduate this month and was unable to find another...

  8. New grads: what did you do with your notes from nursing school?
I'll be getting rid of the vast majority of paper notes, and my laptop crashed with the rest of them. Unfortunately a lot of my papers were on that laptop. :( The paper notes I will keep are from two...

  9. Licensed out of state right after graduation? Or in two states?
No, not stupid at all. When you register for the NCLEX you pay your $200 fee and tell them where to send the results. They don't care where you take it, or where they send it, because it's all...

  10. Licensed out of state right after graduation? Or in two states?
OK this is what I have found out. LunahRN is correct, you can only apply for your initial license in one state. All other licenses have to be acquired through endorsement. So according to everyone...

I graduate this month with my BSN. I'm in southeast Michigan (enough said) and I'm actively looking for a position in Colorado so I can move out of state. I'm looking at other states too, but I would...

  12. Just passed NCLEX & foud out I'm 6 wks pregnant - advice pls
I would definitely still try to get hired. If you can't find anything before baby is born then well...you've got a great excuse. I think hiring managers would look much more favorably on that than if...
