Are you sure you failed? Some people have irregular heart rates and it can be difficult to count. On those patients, sometimes you get a different number each time, although by only a few beats.

Where I work, new grads to get floated for at LEAST 6 months to a year. And even then we don't float to highly specialized units like ICU, CCU, OB etc.
