  1. Wrongful Termination?
I think they just wanted you gone. I doubt I would pursue it. I'm trying to understand what happened. Were they stocked as 2mg on your unit?

  2. Are you really not a "real nurse" unless you work in acute care?
It would be more likely to hear someone say you aren't a "real" nurse when your role requires minimal to no patient contact (clinical educator, case management, insurance RN, etc). Of course you are...

  3. Why don't you just read the chart?
Yes I do read the charts because the reports I get are crap and I'd rather just read and receive the patient. When I do get a report, I like a brief background and little subjective information...

  4. I got reported to HR
I don't think asking is completely inappropriate but your tone of voice or phrasing may have been considered rude. I'm black and people always ask about my name. I don't have a popular name but...

  5. Why so many 3-11 jobs at nursing homes?
That was my least favorite shift. Too busy. I prefer 11-7 for the nursing home.

  6. No visiting hours?
We don't have visiting hours on med-surg. The critical care, psych and rehab units are the only ones with visiting hours. The psych unit is the strictest. I don't mind visitors. Many are...

  8. Why do nurses seem to have a bad reputation?
The shows that try to focus on nurses do not last. Anybody remember Mercy? I know it wasn't realistic but I loved ER.

  9. What's the meanest thing a patient has said to you?
Most of the mean stuff has been said the mentally ill or elderly dementia patients. I don't take it personally but they sure know how to hurl an insult. When I worked LTC, many times the older...

  13. HELP DON offer in Longterm Care
I would look in the specialties forum. There is a section for LTC directors and assistants. The post may be old but there may be some good info for you. Do you have any management experience?

  14. Variable hours??
I would think it meant varying shifts within that shift time frame (7-11, 7-3, 11-7 maybe?). Usually if it is rotating shifts, it will say that specifically.

  15. IS THIS TRUE???
We did the sports bra and shorts assessment but nothing more than that. I do recall an older retired nurse saying in her nursing school days...they did all skills on each other including NG tube. ...

I'm glad someone intervened. I would be disappointed as well. We have a code silver that we call for these situations and security responds. The charge nurse doesn't override the nursing...

  17. I don't know if I want to be a nurse anymore
What other areas have you tried? What do you mean by mentally demanding? You mentioned outpatient but can you be more specific? I would think that an outpatient setting would fit the criteria.

  18. Watching my friends leave :( Question about future.
It really depends on what your interests are. ED is demanding, fast paced and requires lots of flexibility. ICU is also demanding depending on the acuity of the patients and the pace can be fast but...

  19. Interview next week....UM/UR
My interview went well. The position is pretty much the same as a clinical documentation specialist. I'm shadowing someone next week and then we go from there.

  20. How to handle a coworker who is giving poor care
Do you have any examples? Is it something you can prove? I have worked with slack nurses but never had to report anything. One I recall got fired for neglecting to hang chemo.

  22. Twelve hour shifts. Are you doing 3 or 4 days a week?
