I work at two hospitals. First one is a smaller level II NICU and the RNs get 2 sticks apiece. There are usually only two RNs working. Then we call the NNP. There doesn't appear to be a rule...

  13. Moving to quantico. What hospitals are commute-able?
To work night shift at Fairfax you'd have to leave about an hour ahead of time. Day shift would be at least an hour & a half. I think the absolute closest to you would be Potomac (which is now...

  16. Fluctuating O2 sats in a preemie
Yes, I generally ignore the fluctuations unless the kid stays down. My point is only that the sats fluctuate very quickly and by large numbers. Most babies I care for change their sats much more...

  19. What kind of experience did you have?
I did mother-baby first. It's a good place to start. The NICU I started in wouldn't hire new grads, they always hired for nursery first so you could learn the normal before the abnormal.

  20. Does anyone know if the Inova Hospitals in VA test hair or urine for their drug test?
I just got hired, and they did saliva. I'm sure you'll be fine. Just tell the nurse at employee health if there's something you're worried about it.

  23. IV starts - anyone get better?
Yeah, I've tried it both ways. When I advance the needle at all, I blow the vein. If I try to advance just the catheter, it won't advance. So either way hasn't worked for me so far. I was...
