  3. an oldie but goodie
I still put tape labels near the distal ports on my lines - good to know where I can push meds without having to untangle the whole mess every dang time... And, we'll get our bums smacked if we don't...

  4. Things you tell newbies
Keep your mouth closed while doing any patient care involving bodily fluids or tube feeds. Or anytime you are assisting a physician with a bedside procedure. Particularly - ignore the advice to...

  6. medication question
You can always go back to check how the patient reacted to the previous dose of that medication. Might help you determine if you need to question it. Also, check if this a new med for that pt or not.

  7. Ativan
Seen it several times. There is no issue with proper orders. The only times I am uncomfortable about losing IV access is when there is an intent to resuscitate/pursue curative treatment. Sublingual...

  8. How do you draw up meds for IVP?
EBP aside, the main problem I have with injecting a medication into a flush is that it would seem to increase the risk for an error. Are the barrels of these flushes being labeled immediately? How...

  16. Night nurses - being asked to come in on your night off
For me, it is very very simple. If I want to work, I say "yes". If I don't want to work, I say "no". I say no 99.99999% of the time. Either answer is 100% acceptable. If they badger you about...

  17. Calling patients and/or co-workers "honey" or "hon"
I don't mind the nicknames, but I really hate the babytalk directed at elders. Or anyone that isn't a baby, really. "my dear" and "darling" are my faves. And, as a pp wrote, I have been...
