    At my hospital, if you call out with diarrhea you have to stay out until you are 24 hrs diarrhea free. So for most people, that would be at least 2 shifts if you work a few in a row.

    When you've seen the ends wrapped with gauze, are you sure its not a dialysis catheter? Those usually are dressed in some fashion like that, and they are not meant for access other than dialysis...

  10. How many patients do you get on night duty?
    We are 4-5 on my progressive care unit., with 20 pts and 2 LNAs. Our ortho floor does 6-7, with 23 pts and I think 3 LNAs.

    We self schedule, and I work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. Every so often I may work a Thursday instead of the Fri or Sat, but for the most part, I get my weekends on, weekdays off.

    Uaually prns/per diems are first call off because they dont have a guaranteed numbers of hours per pay period.
