  1. Advice!!
My two cents... If people at work are complaining about you, you should probably not get mad unless it's stuff you don't do. From your post, it sounds like you are acknowledging that what they...

  2. Ever accepted a job you knew was a mistake?
Yup. I had that feeling before I was through corporate orientation, but I let it slide. Learned my lesson from that and it won't happen again!!

  3. Negotiating the Holiday Off
I don't have kids or big family gatherings on Christmas, so I usually work it and take someone else's place. This year, however, I am taking the whole week off. How did I manage that? I have a travel...

  4. Dwindling faith in this profession
I'm feeling the same way lately. I feel bashed by the patients, thrown under the bus by management, and the only thing keeping me going is that I have to make money somehow. I think it's time to get...

  5. Pet peeve, bad practice, or overly critical?
I don't think anyone is saying to make it the priority. Just to make sure it gets done. If you have someone who is hemodynamically unstable to the point where you aren't able to roll them to remove...

  6. CDC rec to counsel all males about benefits of circumcision
It looks like you took yet another comment and twisted it beyond recognition. How does a "better sexual experience" have anything to do with "reject a man because part of his body hasn't been cut...

  7. What to Do When the Doctor Throws the Nurse Under the Bus by Lying
I am sorry this happened to you. I would file an incident report for delay of care and also talk with the doc in question to find out what his rationalization was. I would have your NM or another...

  8. Five Ways to Convince Patients they Need Flu Shots
My issue with the flu vaccine is that it is clearly not enough. My current assignment had nearly a third of the beds fill up with flu patients over the weekend. More are expected to come, and...

  10. So disappointed in hospital RNs and MDs
Thank you for being honest with us. Your post illustrates exactly what I was saying earlier. Can I just say, restraint documentation? Every facility I have been in, I have had to chart on...

  11. So disappointed in hospital RNs and MDs
I can't defend RNs/MDs who don't do their jobs, but I can shift the blame to a systems failure, where everyone is pushed to do the minimum on the maximum number of people. Unfortunately, we are...

  12. Pet peeve, bad practice, or overly critical?
When I was in ICU, the admission process was a 3-4 person team effort. The CHG bath was one person's task while another hooked stuff up, a third recorded, and a fourth did the swabs/draws/glucose. It...

  13. Five Ways to Convince Patients they Need Flu Shots
Everyone has the right to their own opinion, true. But I'm tired of people thinking that having an opinion gives them the right to override others' equally valid opinions. I'm tired of the entrenched...

  14. Five Ways to Convince Patients they Need Flu Shots
You should have known before you posted this that the anti-vaccine crowd would jump on this. I hoped we would skip this crap this year. At the least you could try to come up with different arguments...

  16. CDC rec to counsel all males about benefits of circumcision
Sorry, can't quote on my phone. Red Kryptonite, I don't think anyone asked for a "free pass." The hubris in your statement is mind-boggling. I think that if you truly are advocating for...

  17. Why are Nurses paid so low in the south ??
Getting kind of nit picky. I was speaking geographically, not culturally. Michigan is way north of North Carolina.

  19. Why are Nurses paid so low in the south ??
Depends on the area. There were some very affordable houses in MI. We paid $775/month rent for a 2 BR, 2 BA, with a full basement and 2 car garage. It was on the nicest street in the town, too.

  21. What job will you do for your semi-retirement?
My plan is to write fantasy novels and make enough to quit my nursing job. As much as I enjoy nursing, I've finally realized it wears me out and there is more to life than sleeping and working.

  23. Why are Nurses paid so low in the south ??
I lived/worked in MI and in NC. They are fairly comparable when it comes to the COL/wages ratio. Both are pretty crappy. Wages are generally lower in the South for a multitude of reasons. The...

  25. CDC rec to counsel all males about benefits of circumcision
