Colorado Mesa University offers Practical Nursing certificates, undergraduate BSN, graduate MSN, and the Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees.
Classes: On Campus
The BSN program prepared me well for the nursing profession. When I wanted to complete my senior practicum at a facility they did not previously have a contract with, the administration worked very hard to make it happen so that I could gain experience in an unconventional setting before graduation. The academic standards were very rigorous, and admission into the BSN program was done on a points system rather than a wait list so it was very clear what the expectations were for enrollment. The cost of the program was very reasonable, especially as compared to other BSN programs in Colorado at the time I attended (2006-2010). The program would likely benefit from additional pediatric rotation hours, but this is challenging in the small town the college is located within as there are limited pediatric facilities and floors.
The staff were very supportive of students and were accessible when students needed to contact them outside of class time. Again, as above, the administrative staff for the health sciences department worked very hard to help me get a senior practicum in an unconventional location. The simulation lab staff was also very accommodating when students wanted to sign up for times outside of class time to practice skills.
