The University of Texas at Arlington Course Programs

Traditional BSN

The traditional BSN program is designed for students who desire to be licensed and practice as a Registered Nurse (RN).  This pre-licensure program will prepare the student to utilize the vast knowledge gained and safely practice evidence-based nursing.

RN-BSN

The RN-BSN program is designed for nurses who currently have a Diploma in Nursing or an Associate Degree in Nursing and are looking to further their education with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. Our number one nationally ranked program offers online and in classroom options for students.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

The MSN programs offered at the University of Texas at Arlington are diverse in selection and complex in their difficulty. The MSN programs prepare students for advanced practice, management, and research endeavors.

The programs available are:

  • Nursing Administration
  • Nursing Education
  • Nurse Practitioner MSN Degree
  • Online MSN
  • Post-Master's Certificates

Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD)

Program options are available for BSN-PhD and MSN-PhD.  The program prepares nurse scientists to improve health outcomes for diverse and vulnerable populations by reducing health disparities.

Programs are available as blended learning, online and on-campus programs. Students do not have to meet face-to-face each week as it varies how often each semester thus saving the student valuable time traveling to campus.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

The 36 credit doctorate level Nursing Practice program builds upon the Master's degree knowledge for nurses interested in advancing into leadership, clinical experience, and innovation. The program is based upon evidence-based research.  Courses surround the concept of leadership, translation of evidence based-research into clinical relevancy, epidemiology, health policy, as well as specialized clinical practice.

The DNP curriculum meets the AACN essentials for the Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice. The baccalaureate, masters and DNP programs in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation are accredited by the CCNE.

Mentoring Program for Doctoral Students

Unlike other university Nursing programs, the University of Texas at Arlington offers a mentoring program for students who are attending a doctorate level course. The mentoring program offers an opportunity for doctorate level students to be matched with faculty or community leaders for support throughout their program.

Our faculty and advisory staff at the University of Texas at Arlington are truly dedicated as they strive to make your learning experience positive, productive, and valuable as you rise to meet and surpass your goals as a Nurse.

    My Experience

Great experience so far. I have only taken one class, however the support you receive is great. I am looking forward to taking NUR 3375. I have been a nurse for 30 years and found the ease back in was challenging however the amount of support was helpful.

    About The Staff

Coaches are available via email and now blackboard chat. Response time so far has been efficient.

    My Experience

My busy schedule necessitated an online program. The three criteria I used to evaluate online programs were cost, accreditation, and longevity of the brick and mortar portion of the school.
The University of Texas at Arlington nursing program is CCNE accredited, much more affordable than other online programs, and delivered by an institution that has been a leader in nursing education for decades.

    About The Staff

The staff was generally helpful and supportive.

    Things To Know

The RN-BSN program is great for those that want a superior education.
The MSN in Leadership program is wonderful.

    My Experience

I had a terrible experience with one class where the teacher would pick on petty issues to give a bad grade. I had to enroll into another school after 3 classes. Buyer beware 2168-NURS-5366-401-PRINC-OF-RESEARCH-IN-NURSING

    About The Staff

They always seem overwhelmed but overall most of them are pleasant. There are few who make the school look bad.

    My Experience

The academic advisors are great. They walk you through enrolling in each class. In the beginning, they taught me hoto look up the textbook requirements.
The teachers and the course coaches are really good. They respond to emails promptly.
Everyone really wants you to succeed.
I have three classes left. I would recommend this program to anyone.

    About The Staff

Some of the staff have even written the textbooks. This is the quality of staff they have.

    Things To Know

Great program. Very glad I chose a Texas school.

    Program: BSN
    Classes: On Campus
    Graduation: 2013

    My Experience

This is a well structured and thought-out program. It was very challenging, but also very rewarding. The expectations were set high and the school provided whatever support was needed to ensure we met those high expectations. For example, there was one person that her job was to ensure we did well on boards and find jobs. It is amazing that a nursing program offered that (back in 2013). The prestige of the nursing school is only getting better! One was definitely able to tell who the UTA nursing students were at hospitals and who belonged to "other" nursing schools.

    About The Staff

Amazing people that pushed us to be better and better in every aspect. There was an elevated level of professionalism expected of UTA students and that began with the staff. I am a clinical instructor at another University and I try to model myself after my UTA instructors. My students and lead faculty have noticed a difference in my approach and are beginning to adopt some of these same ideas.

    Program: Accelerated BSN
    Classes: Online
    Graduation: 2018

    My Experience

I found the courses challenging but manageable. The admissions process was very skewed. They make it seem like everyone will be accepted when they meet Sal of the prerequisites, however that is not the case! Only a select few are actually admitted. Everyone else is waitlisted until orientation at which point those not called off are denied.

    About The Staff

The advising staff is terrible. It feels like talking to a diploma mill, they all sound like sales people and tell everyone they will get in if they take the prerequisite classes. They blatantly mislead students.

    My Experience

I highly recommend UTA to anyone in Texas, their program is revolutionary and attempting to bring a stellar nursing school atmosphere to the whole state, not just those of us in the metroplex.

    About The Staff

Professors have been quick to reply to emails and are preemptive in trying to keep our experience as smooth as possible. Certain advisors can be hit or miss, but for the most part everyone is prompt and very helpful in providing advice.
