What Drives you Bonkers ?

by Praiser

What makes you the most crazy about school nursing ?
Mine is teacher's who are "Germaphobs". They are the worst I have seen. If you have a mild sniffle or a new cough, they want you to send them home asap. Heck, they don't even want me to assess them....just get them out of school fast !

Chaps my hide !!

What drives me bonkers??? I don't know where to start. I also have pregnancy hormones working on me, so I apologize in advance.

1. They send every trivial papercut. However, when you really need to do a screening or something on a kid - they forget, or are doing something important in class, or don't feel it is a necessity.

2. Once again, they send every little trivial thing. However, the kid with 103.0 temp is not sent down until 30 minutes before time to go home (this just happened).

3. Students sent down for stomachaches / headaches 5 minutes before lunch because they skipped breakfast. Common sense?? Not for a teacher (please read my new post on this very topic). OR 10 minutes before time to go home because they skipped lunch. Hello?????

4. Yesterday - I had a teacher send a kid because she spilled juice on her pants. Now, teach sent a clean pair of pants with the child. All I did was let her use my bathroom. Now, teacher has a bathroom in her classroom. Hmmmmmmm???? I had to put a hearing screening on hold to deal with it, though!!! Common sense?????

5. I could think of many more. However, I have a kid with a 2 day old microscopic scratch that he received at home last night waiting for me. Did I mention, he goes home in 15 minutes??????

If a student throws up that teachers think its an automatic ticket home.

Or they will interrupt your lunch because they also think vomit is a medical emergency.

Staying on this line of thinking, they think that saliva and vomit are the same thing...or that if a student says they threw up in the bathroom, not witnessed, and no fever or other signs of illness then they still get to go home. Sorry, but in my clinic, if I don't see the vomit (or another reputable adult saw it) it doesn't count!

For me, it's parents sending kids to school sick. And parents who don't even own a thermometer but they know their child had a fever because they checked it with the palm of their hand or a kiss on the forehead.

Yeah It seems like some parents don't have common sense if their kiddo is sick to keep them home take care of them. Not send them to school where they can make others sick and just be miserable. Adding to the above post I can't stand it when I get a sick kiddo early in the morning and I ask them If they told mom or dad that they were not felling well, and the parents don't do anything for them and tell them if they are not feeling well to go see the nurse. GRRRRR.....

I recently sent out an e-mail giving suggestions on what not to send to the nurse because like someone said earlier..every trivial thing!!!!! I wasn't able to get to my important things so I took care off it. It has helped a lot but I've had one teacher that has acted like a 2 yr old! She is making it her mission to make me miserable! She has bad mouthed me in public and here at work. At first it upset me but then...you have to look at the source.........

You go Purple Scrubs. It is awfully "convenient" that these kiddoes never look like they vomited, never smell like they vomited, always make it to the toilet, never have any adult witnesses, do not vomit in your office.........then, conveniently "vomit" in the hallway bathroom on the way back to class!!!

True vomiters lose it in their lunch tray or class trash can!!!
