US School Nurse working abroad

Does anyone know if there are standard of practice and/or other legal documents that can guide a US school nurse working at a US based international school abroad? This school does not have any protocols in place and I would like to make one up. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

The National Association of School Nurses has some published guidelines although they are not written specifically for international schools. Putting "school nurse" in google and you'll come up with helpful links. We just adopted stuff from what we found. CDC also has some travel sites that help with recommended immunizations. I'll be leaving Dhaka after this year. Let me know if you have any openings.

Are you at one of these schools?

• American International School of Costa Rica
• Country Day School
• Lincoln School
• Marian Baker School

Can anyone tell me how to go about searching for nursing positions in American Schools or other international schools abroad? What is the pay like and what kind of experience should you have? I've been working in a pediatric ICU. Should I get a part time gig as a school nurse in the US before applying?

Probably most international schools hire local staff as they will be cheaper. I was a nurse at an American International
School in Bangladesh. No local nurses were hired as frankly they were not good. Now, I'm in Bangkok where my wife is a teacher. The international school she works at hires Thai nurses as they are good. Country regs and work permits may also factor in.

Thanks for your reply. That's good to know. My boyfriend is also a teacher, which is why I was hoping to get a job at a school together. Do you have any other ideas about nursing jobs internationally, preferably in a developing country as I can find sufficient advise for developed countries. What do you do in Thailand?
