Hi-
I am an ER nurse, my wife is a high school teacher.
She is trying to increase hand hygiene in her school.
At her school the bathroom faucets are set in such a way as to make hand washing nearly impossible. You push, and get a couple of seconds of water. You need one hand pushing all the time.
In addition to the faucet issue, she is trying to convince the school to get alcohol gel dispensers, much like we use in the hospital.
Some questions:
- Anybody using Purell, or similar?
- Any evidence that shows this to be an effective practice?
- Any problems with this practice?
- The school nurse is concerned that the kids- high school kids- will lick their hands with alcohol on them. 1-Is this is as silly as I think it is? 2-So what if they do?
- Any other thoughts on this issue?
Any inpu is appreciated.
