All School Nurses

by Praiser

With so many new school nurse's here on AllNurses, I thought it might be good for us all to introduce ourselves. I would like to know each one of my new friends !

I'm Praiser. Have been a school nurse for 18 years. I work in the mid-west. I do elementary school and am the sole nurse for my school. I love school nursing (for the most part) ! I love the kids. The teacher's tend to drive me nuts, but I can deal with them. I have gotten so much good advice from this message board. I appreciate all of you !

So lets hear from the rest of you !

Praiser

Hi, I'm Purple Scrubs. I am a school nurse for an elementary school in North Texas. I have been at my school almost 2 years, and I love it! Like Praiser, the teachers tend to drive me crazy (not to mention parents at times), but I love working with the kiddos and I do enjoy building a relationship with the families and communities. My district is an urban, low income district, so I have many families who are homeless and/or poverty level. It presents special challenges but also amazing rewards!

Hello! I am Artistyc1; I am an artist that makes my living as a school nurse. It is the very best, (and often the most frustrating and difficult) job I have had in my 32 years as an RN. I have been a school nurse for 6 years, and no day is "routine"! I love all my kids, work at an elementary school in Upstate NY. The teachers and families can drive you crazy, but for the most part, they are just a "challenge", LOL!

Hi all...I have been reading this site for several months now, but haven't posted much. I hope to change that! I am a middle school nurse and have worked here for about a year and a half. I love my job & the fact that it puts me on the same campus as my own children. I learn something new everyday!

My name is MeLinda. This is my first year as a school nurse. I live in South Alabama and go to three different schools. Two are K4-8th grade and the other is a middle school (6th-8th). The schools are rotated and I am at one school all day. So far so good, I am just learning the ropes. I have been enjoying myself so much more than my previous job. I am lucky enough to have a job where all the students and teachers respect me and love having a nurse around, even if it is just for the ice packs. LOL.

Hi, I'm Karen from NH. I'm in my first year as a school nurse. I am part-time, the only nurse of a 125 student PK-8 rural elementary school. I also work FT as an ER nurse. Praying someday this position will go FT, I love it! The kids make my days so much fun. Definitely have my challenges, but it's so rewarding. Every day is different.

I just want to thank everyone here for their great advice, tips, and thoughts. Even though I'm a lurker, I am here every day and get so much out of these boards.

Hope you all are having a great day!

Hi Everyone:

I am Needsmorechocolate from NH. I have been a school nurse for three years. My experience is with elementary kids (K-8). I love the kids and this has been one of the toughest but most rewarding nursing jobs I have had. I enjoy the fact that no two days are alike!

I lurk here on the boards almost daily. I have learned so much from reading all the posts.

I hope everyone had a good day!
