what's your favorite...

  1. Having a hard time right now, not getting into specifics because it'd be very easy for those I know on here to figure it out but....

Cheer me up, tell me what is the absolute best best thing for you about working as a school nurse. I need it.
    Thanks!

Monday thru Friday, no weekends, nights, or holidays. A week off at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, a week for spring break, Good Friday, and 2 1/2 months in the summer.

What Old Dude said. This time of year is always hard for me. The kids are sick of being in school and are increasingly demanding. The seniors really don't want to be there anymore and are wanting to be sent home daily. 7,000 field trips at the elementary schools I cover and never enough subs. As the weather warms up, the teachers start to complain about the kids with body odor because, yeah, I can fix that. Then mid June rolls around and ahhhhh....by mid August, I'm ready sto start again. Hang in there! Summer's comin'!

And they aren't even putting effort into acting or concocting stories. I keep hearing brutally honest "I'm tired and I just want to go home" and "Ummm. I don't feel like being here. Do you think I can go home? Lie down for the next 4 periods?"

    Bruhh... No...

But the field trips? I'm ready to bust out of here with them! Bring on the field trips! That a favorite. (even if coverage is an issue)

My teachers are all at this point as well- they are just DONE and they have to make it until June 22nd!! And we go back August 6th. They keep coming onto my office complaining about all sorts of stuff- many are worse than my frequent fliers at this point.

Besides the schedule, my favorite part is the silly little kids! This 1st grade class is soooooo needy, but also super adorable. I just gave a girl a unicorn bandaid and when she asked "How is this supposed to help my cut feel better?" I said "Magical unicorn powers" and she replied "It's better already!" and skipped away...seriously, where else can you find such joy?!

Everything the others have said about the schedule and time off - its awesome! To have the same schedule as my kids is priceless. 2 of my 3 kids ride to school with me, hang out in the office with me for 15 min or so before school starts and then ride home with me. The older 2 come in during the lunch hour and raid my food drawer (I have snacks I bring in just for them). They often bring their friends . It's perfect and the good far outweigh the bad.

I actually have some band aids at home that say "tiny unicorns will kiss you better"
