What is your dream job?

  1. Let me start by saying I LOVE my current gig. The hours are perfect, I work with great staff, I have a 15 minutes commute...

BUT, if I were to describe a job where I could be doing anything, I would love to be working out in the community doing home visits for moms with newborns. When I worked as a Nurse Practitioner, I specialized in newborns and all the new babies would come to me for their first pediatrician visit after being discharged from the hospital. I loved all of the teaching, reassuring the worried parents, catching issues before they became a problem, and of course, getting to snuggle with all those sweet babies.

Ideally I would love to find a program where I could use my Spanish and visit at-risk families with new babies. I haven't been able to find anything like this in my community. Like I said, I love what I am doing right now, but I would consider a change if something as I described was an option.

    What about everyone else?

I have said it before and I mean it. Should I not need income, I would volunteer at this school for nurse. This is, by far, the best gig going.

Other than this... maybe peds onc. office. I have oncology experience, and I love peds. I've also always wanted to do women's health office, maybe something in the community, a clinic or something.

With a couple of minor changes to make it ideal, my current job would be a dream come true.

Have you researched the Nurse Family Partnership? You start doing home visits on first-time moms when they're pregnant, and continue to see them until the baby is 2 years old, I believe. It's an amazing program that I always wished I could have squeezed into my career goal timeline. It sounds like pretty much exactly what you're describing.

Unfortunately, that is a part time position. As long as you enjoy the ride...

    Worst. Job. Ever.

    I don't want strings attached.

If we are doing non-nursing, I'll be a sommelier.
