Type II Diabetic students

  1. I have my first Type II Diabetic at my middle school as of this morning. We have plenty of Type I's (6 of them) but I haven't had any experience with the Type II in the school setting.

So I have a silly question- do Type II Diabetics still need glucagon? It is on the order set from the MD for severe hypoglycemia, but I wasn't aware that Type II's have problems with dropping their BG so much.

    Thanks!

My T2D was on metformin in the mornings, no insulin, no BSG checks, no glucagon. I haven't ever seen a T2D get lower than a juice box wouldn't fix, but ask if there are orders.

My only T2D here this year and he just needs to check his BG before lunch and that's it. He takes his medication at home.

Unlikely but I think it's just a safeguard in place just in case; possibly forgetting and taking the medicine twice, deciding to lose weight and not eat, or some other uh oh.

I have a kiddo who started out as diagnosed as Type 1 for a year, then got diagnosed as Type 2 about 3 years ago. This kid still takes insulin, which he was started on when they thought he was Type 1. He has glucagon.
