Thank you gift for school nurse

So while I work with school nurses as a PDN that does 1:1 care for students, I'm not a school nurse. However my son's school nurse has been nothing short of awesome. One of the few who communicate, listens to my frustration, keeps a "safe snack" supply for my son with dietary restrictions, maintains confidentiality from the nosy principal who demands he must know everything as the school "risk manager", and been a safe support for my son. She gets just as excited as he does with his growth spurts (3" in the last 3 months so now he's 5'5"...she told him he has to get stuff off the shelves for her now that he has her beat by 1/2")

I was thinking a clay pot decorated by my middle schooler and placing my son's favorite hardy (and hard to kill) plant a peace Lilly. And since my son says she likes coffee a gift card to the local convenience store that has coffee and more.

Would this be appropriate? I know most forget about the school nurse post elementary.

A card that points out all those things you realize she does for your son. She may not even realize she does all those things and it really feels good when someone else recognizes it.

You're right that we rarely get things so those things you mentioned are really nice! I've watched all the gifts roll in for the teachers all week. I've received one thing but it was really sweet and thoughtful and made all those insane visits from the little boy worth it!

I think it would be awesome! I always love anything the kids do for me at Christmas or the end of the year.

My son is also planning on janitor gifts. He hasn't ridden the bus since October so he has no idea who the current driver is. He loved the surprise when he went out of his way to give a token gift to his favorite custodian last year.

This year he's befriended much of the custodial staff and will even eat lunch with them (even though it's the detention table).

He sounds like a wonderful young man.

For, it doesn't matter what the gift is, the recognition is truly the gift. And I treasure the hand written notes from the students the most.

I would be so touched to receive this gift. I am an elementary school nurse and rarely receive a "thank you" much less an appreciation gift. It sounds like this nurse is making a difference in your son's life, and this would be a very kind, thoughtful way for you to show her that you appreciate it. :-)

It gets better...we went to pick up a plant. I had one in mind. He picked up one and announced its what he's chosen just for Mrs. C. An aloe plant. Because it's healing and since she's a nurse she's like an aloe plant. ;)
