Schools will do testing if requested with results available for your Pediatrician to finalize diagnosis and recomend TX.

Two sites with great info I've used in my family:
    Attention Deficit Disorder Association
Articles, personal stories, interviews with ADD professionals, book reviews, and links to other ADD-related info

CHADD: Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity
A national non-profit organization representing children and adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity

Where I work (private school) we do not test for ADHD/ADD. However, pediatricians, pediatric neurologists, and psychiatrists test the students. They may ask for input from the school's teachers or school counselor. Speak to your step-sons pediatrician or primary care provider. They may be able to either test or refer to someone who will test.

Check out the TOVA/EEG which assist with differential diagnosis of ADHD vs. depression, anxiety, etc. It measures impulsivity and innatentiveness. Hope this helps.
