My state passed a law requiring schools to determine which students do not have health insurance. My district, in wanting to be on thr ball, has put a request out to the district nurses to ask us the best way for them to go about that task. Anyone else have a similar scenario? How was it put into action? or anyone have any ideas??

Maybe if you use a Student Health History form you can add this to it, then send it home to everyone to "update records", then put it in the packet for new admissions. This seems like a good idea, but man it is going to be alot of work!

I'm not sure how happy parents are going to be giving you this information. I have trouble getting them to give me immunization information. I suppose a letter home telling them it was a new state requirement would do it and then as new students enrolled, perhaps it could be added to the forms they fill out for enrollment.

i know - this is going to be a toughie. I am wondering (as I could not find the law online and am just trusting my boss) if it is just a yes or no type of thing or if it is a yes and provide info type thing. I know that the bottom line is to get eligible families enrolled into the state family insurance. I am thinking that maybe a combination of a paper questionairre with an option for parents to answer online in a secure format so that they do not need to disclose directly to school staff and the results only be seen by one person may be a viable option.
