i enjoy seeing the "clinical news" on the allnurses homepage, but this one just amazed me today:

head lice beginning to show permethrin resistance

i thought this was pretty much common knowledge, not "news"! :lol2:

I didn't know about this, but then again, I have never had head lice, or had to treat my kids for head lice. I also don't work in pediatrics and am not a school nurse, so not sure how I would have known this. Perhaps whomever posted that article, posted it for people in my position who may not know about it.

The practice NCLEX questions I've seen mention spinosad as the appropriate treatment for head lice, with the rationale that lice are becoming more resistant to permethrin. How long has that evidence been around?

I just got a call from school that they found 2 on his head. The literature sent home suggested using Listerine. The pharmacist sold my husband Nix (he couldn't wait 2 secs for me to throw some clothes on). We haven't found any others, shampooed his hair, shaved his hair short and are going to try the Nix. I hope it works! Now I know what I will doing the rest of the day: laundry, laundry, laundry. Already have the stuffed animals in bags. Changing loads in between NCLEX practice exams. *sigh*
