School Nurses: Good Neighbor Program?

Specialties School

Published

Hello fellow school nurses,

I have been a school nurse Pk-5th for 2.5 years. I am 25 yrs old and looking to buy my first home; I heard something about a program for "public service workers", like EMS, firefighters, teachers, that can purchase a "HUD Home" for half of the listing price. This program is called "The Good Neighbor Next Door Program"'. I was wondering if any of you have heard of this or know if this program applies to school nurses too (since it applies to teachers and we are usually thrown in with them with other programs and benefits). This is the website for the program:

http://portal.hud.gov/hudportal/HUD?src=/program_offices/housing/sfh/reo/goodn/gnndabot

According to the detailed requirements page:

[h=3]Teachers[/h] You may participate in the Good Neighbor Next Door program as a Teacher if you are employed as a full-time teacher by a state-accredited public school or private school that provides direct services to students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12. In addition, the public or private school where you are employed as a teacher must serve students from the area where the home you are purchasing is located in the normal course of business

Sounds like school nurses and other school workers are out of luck.

Awww :( That would be awesome. Plus I checked and there isn't any HUD homes located in my area anyway.
