i am in Mass and just applied for a substitute nurse position. I have my ADN and no experience as a nurse.. I wanted to try school nursing and was wondering if you need experience to work as a full time school nurse? BSN? Did you get hired with just an ADN? Thanks!

You cannot be a school nurse in Massachusetts Public Schools without a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing. DOE requirements.

Thank you. I found it strange that many of the positions posted on Schoolspring say Bachelors degree preferred not required

^This.

Though I have met/worked with RNs without a BSN in the charter school circle. Depends on public vs. private.

I started as a sub in school nursing without any nursing experience, but my full time job was very happy for my sub experience! (As was I.) Many MA schools will also required certification (see above) which requires 2 years experience in certain fields - my school sponsored me for it, not sure about other schools.

Can you be sub for a school nurse with an ADN??? At least you can see if you would like it.

I'm a full time school nurse in Massachusetts with an ADN, and the only experience I had when I started was 4 months in long term care. You can be a school nurse with an ADN, my district requires you need to get your Bachelor's degree within 3 years of hire, I believe.
