So....

I have a student at the middle school takes adderall. Parents are, on a weekly basis, bringing and taking Adderall back home. There is no rhyme or reason to it. There has been suspicion that dad is selling it. The student then confirm that with the school psych the other day. I think it's time I tighten up the med policy.

Currently, my medication policy is pretty short and sweet, it doesn't specifically address schedule II meds. I was wondering what your protocols are for parents dropping off these meds, and possibly picking them up if allowed. Do you have an example of a pill count sheet a could see? I need some examples!

We aren't a big district, about 3400 students total. But I am the only nurse.

Maybe you could write up a medication policy? Something that specifically states that medication will be dropped off by a parent and will only be sent home (with parent) if medication is discontinued or at the end of the school year. I have a sign in sheet on the back of each student's MAR so when the parents bring in the meds, I count them, ask the parent to count them, and then we both sign the signature page which states how many pills were brought in. I usually joke with them that this covers both of us so that if anyone comes sniffing around we can both prove that we weren't selling them.

Usually the parents drop off between 15 and 30 depending on how many they got from the pharmacy.
