Ready to give it up.....I think...

Hello all I am new posting to all nurses but not new to the community (see silent watcher in dictionary) So I received the job of my dreams a couple of months ago as a School Nurse....I love it...I am at a high school with roughly 400 students not the many medications at all...overall more good days then bad.... I also work on a Medical SurgiCal unit on the weekends due to financial constraints (husband not able to find work so who but a selfless nurse to OVER work herself)...But I am done....I have found myself talking myself INTO going in on the weekends...but on Friday I had this ah ha moment that wants to start writing a resignation letter....I have talked it over with my other half and supports me...I am mom to 3 children so I know they miss me (I think) lol. I just am not sure how much notice is enough....I do not see myself going back to Med Surg as I have found that I LOVE educating families more so then the direct care providing (hate med pass)..sighhh I love my medical surg family which makes this even more difficult..

Thanks for the ears

I'm not sure I can decipher what you're trying to say.

I think it came out more as a rant then a question....sorry about that....it was initially a question in regards to what is an adequate amount of time to give the med surg unit that I started on a little of a year ago. I just don't want to leave on a sour note. I hope that clarifies the fuzziness.

2 weeks is standard.

Are you staying on as a school nurse?

ah, in a part time position like that, 2 weeks is good, if you want to be generous give em a month. They're not gonna do anything until you leave anyway but at least you will have parted with them the right way.

Yesssssss I love my students!!! At graduation I am bringing a whole case of tissues. I started at the hospital last March. I applied to this school nurse position with little hope that I would get it but I did. Talked with management at the hospital and was able maintain the part time position.... until now....as it is getting warmer the population especially the young ladies are using up much of my mental capacity lol.....so by the time weekend arrives I find myself exhausted and drained...

Make sure you know your contract. When I started my School Nurse job, I could only give a 2 week notice to the hospital. (Job started in exactly 2 weeks!) I lost all of my accrued paid leave and sick time because my contract said I had to give a month notice upon resignation or forfeit the accrued time.

I had no idea....

I don't blame you for wanting to make the change, if you can swing it. Too bad School Nursing doesn't pay better...

2 weeks to a month is more than fine.

You have to take care of yourself, and you'll be a better provider for it (not to mention the wonders it will do for your health, mental and otherwise). I think it's very wise to realize your limits and do what you have to do!

I'm also very glad that you love your school nursing job! Let us know how everything goes.
