Poopy Pants in PreK

Specialties School

So our protocol thus far is that SPED students may receive personal hygeine assistance from their classroom teachers & instructional aides if they have a toileting accident. But gen ed students (including those in PreK) who have poopy accidents wait for parents to come assist with simple clean up or go home for a bath.

For the first time ever, this week I had a foster parent take issue with this practice. I presume she is composing a letter outlining her complaints at this very moment. Does anyone clean up after BM incontinence in gen ed students?

well coming from a male view point....as sad as it is, i wont do it. i'll call the parent or ask the teacher to do it or even the principal. aint nobody got time for no sexual abuse claim.

At my school I do help if needed BUT only if another adult will stay with me as a witness. Kids have accidents. If it's a regular thing then I would set up a meeting with the parents and teacher but if it's once or every once in awhile I let the child try to clean up first and then offer assistance with another adult.

In my school district, the problem is more of WHAT will the child change into rather than WHO will change the child. In my school district I have witnessed the teacher assistant helping to clean up a child, but this is SPED. I honestly don't know what they do for a regular ed child that has a BM accident that they can't handle themselves.

I don't touch em...I don't even look to confirm. If they tell me they had a poop accident I call the parent. I don't look under clothing at all unless I think there is some urgency that might lead to an emergency to do so.

I call parents first to let them know - some parents will drop what they are doing and come up to school to take care of the situation others are ok with me assisting with cleaning. I do have a few nut cases (parents) I deal with - if I see one of their kids for this issue I get someone to come and witness.

Sometimes I rather go ahead and assist the kids - otherwise I have poop everywhere in the bathroom.
