I was wondering, for NYS retirement purposes, does the school year with summers off constitute one full year of credit in the retirement system? I currently work per diem at a county hospital with NYS retirement and I am accumulating years of service extremely slowly.

I spoke to my Business Office about this and they said that it is because although I work 10 months, my salary is based on a yearly June-June with me being paid out over 10 months. I am still an employee of the district during the 2 months off for summer.
Hope that helps!
