What would you do?

I have a few new teachers this year fresh out of college..both are sending me students all day, seriously. I had 24 students today just from 2 classes, the problems were all the same, "I think I'm going to throw up." No fever, smiling, laughing and talking among themselves..it's very frustrating, when I know nothing is wrong with them physically. I still do all my checks and send them back to class with a little note stating the same. I had a meeting with the entire staff about, when to send your student."

Maybe laminate a hard copy of the criteria for sending a child to the health room and hand deliver it to these teachers would help :)

I picked up sand buckets for all my teachers and wrote "Yucky bucket" on them. The teachers give a bucket to the kids who say "I feel like I'm going to throw up". It has worked wonders, especially in the lower grades. The teachers don't make a big deal about it, they just tell the kiddo to keep this beside your desk, just in case and generally the kid forgets about it in a few minutes. On the rare occasion that the kid is actually ill, well, then there is a bucket beside them to contain the mess.

This is a GREAT idea! I think I will have to steal this! Hope it's not too late to find sand buckets at the store.

This is a wonderful idea. Those trusty ice cream buckets with lids would work. But, I realize they aren't nearly as pretty!

Usually by this time of year, they are being marked down which makes it even better!

Yep, I did the same thing! Now, there is less "I threw up in the bathroom" and I tell teachers that I want to see the vomit :) I got mine at the Dollar Store and I line them with a garbage bag for easy clean-up.

Specializes in Med-surg, school nursing..

I've also seen a milk jug cut (so the handle is still usable) on pinterest. Great idea!

I'm having the same problem. They have 7 periods a day and dome twice through different teachers. I've been trying to reach out with the parents to convince them to stay in class.
