Hey Nurses! :)

I have a job interview on tuesday for a position as an elementary school nurse. I am a new LVN and only have 4 months of working LVN experience. (I worked for 4 months in a LTC facility before my husband and I moved cities). We live in the DFW area TX.

I really want this position but am worried my lack of experience will cause me to not be hired.

Any advice or tips or words of encouragement to help me land my dream job?

Thanks!! :sarcastic:

Hey there- did you interview yet for the elementary nurse position? I have an interview this morning for a nurse position at a nearby elementary school and I am in the same boat as you with even less experience! I have 2 jobs, one with LTC and one is AL. I have only been working for a month. This site has a lot of helpful hints but you may need to search a few different ways to find it. There is a "School Nurse" Topic here and they have posted some interview questions and tips. Really it all boils down to your personality and if they like you. The skills you learned in school plus life lessons are probably enough to start with (especially if you are a mother.)

With any nursing position you use the skills you learned in school and there is infinite learning as you go, continuing education, and a lot of researching different situations. I do know that you will not only be a nurse but a babysitter, trainer, confidant and disciplinarian. I will have more interview information this afternoon- I will definitely post it here for you and others who are new to school nursing. Thanks for posting and good luck!

Hey! No it's tomorrow but that's exciting!! Are you an lvn also!?

:)good luck and let me know how it goes !!!! Thanks for the tips!

Hey there, just left interview. I spoke with the Principal and the RN who oversees all the LPNs in the county. I didn't prepare like I should have so I felt caught off guard a little bit. They asked the questions you will see on the site but I didn't have well rounded answers. Make sure you prepare and be ready to talk about what you will bring to the position. Sounds like there is plenty of training so you shouldn't be afraid to sell yourself for the position. You will be pretty independent and must have good organization skills. There will be mentors for you to utilize. My one piece of advice is to practice answering questions in the mirror and do a mock interview with a friend or spouse. Sell yourself. Be upbeat, positive and ready for anything!

Good luck!
