NCSN results

  1. Good morning! I took the NCSN exam this past weekend ... feeling pretty 50/50 about it. Anyone taken it recently? Does it really take 6-8 weeks to hear back? I'm dying to know!!!

I wish I could answer you... I want to take it- but only if my district will pay me the same stipend that they pay the Nationally Certified teachers. I asked and they said they will not (which I think is BS)

That is BS! Are you on the teacher's contract?

I took it a couple years ago at the end of July and thought for sure I had failed it but not only did I pass, I did really well. It took me the full 8 weeks to hear back. I actually think it went a few days over that so don't get in a big hurry.

Then I had to apply in January for the extra stipend that I didn't begin getting until the following Sept. I only got back pay to August (the month before I got approved)-not from the time I passed so basically I had my certificate almost a year before getting anything extra. I don't get as much as the teachers even thought I'm on a teacher's contract which I don't think that's very fair and it felt like such a long slow process but I'm still happy I did it. I learned a lot and getting something is better than nothing!

I am. But the language in the contract specifically states "Any teacher who is Nationally Board Certified will receive a stipend of blah blah blah." When I started on the teacher contract (once I was certified) I specifically asked and was told no. My supervisor did say that they would fight it if I did it. But I'd rather fight the fight and know that I will get the stipend instead of shell out the $$ beforehand.

It took 6 weeks for me to get results. Our Department of Education allows us to use certification in lieu of a master's degree for professional status. I may start in on a master's regardless, but it's nice to have the requirement out of the way. (and for a lot less money than a master's...)
