My morning

A while ago I had an issue with is grandma. She brought him to school a couple of days after it started and his jaw was wired shut. Grandma said he can participate in gym and principal said he needs a doctor's note to say he can participate in gym. Fast forward to now and grandma is blaming me because I won't allow him to go to gym and that the doctor never gave her a note. At the time I told her in person before that she can call up the doctor's office and have them fax over a note. I have had doctor's offices not send notes but once the parents call they immediately fax something over. She is complaining that he is getting in trouble for doing flips at recess(which he isn't suppose to on any day and has been sneaking out at recess). It should be noted that grandma's number hardly ever works and if it does, she never calls back.

Just one more week until Thanksgiving break.

Don't you just love how parents/g-parents, guardians can never be reached when they need to but yet they are the biggest complainers if something doesn't go their way! We have a disclosure form parents can sign that allows us to contact doctors offices ourselves because often time parents aren't reliable enough to do that.

Oh, there must be something in the air! I have a student out of PE since October for a cardiac issue. Took 3 weeks and an exacerbation of tachycardia for no good reason for her even get me the note after she threatened me if anything happened to her. I promised her I wouldn't make her take PE, but also advised they would not be med excused until i had an MD note. Then I find out the the student had full plans on trying out for the cheer squad. I explained to the student that no PE means no cheer squad. Then I have the student come in yesterday with a pulse in the 130s dizzy and headache and find out she's been running around at recess time. :banghead: We had another talk.

Flare- Just a thought. Does this student have a cleared Sports Physical to make her eligible to be in cheerleading? I have to deal with Sports Physicals in some of my buildings....and.they.are.a.pain.

no, that was the kicker! The sports physical was clear as day in stating that she needs to wait for cardiac clearance. I was soooo happy that I called the coach to give her a heads up about that one. My spidey senses were tingling before hand

So my nursing supervisor said she would talk to grandma if I had problems. Grandma started raising her voice at me saying I was the person who made this decision to exclude him. I told her it is not up to me but the school district and reminded her that she can call up the doctor's office to fax a note over. She stated, "HE NEVER WENT TO AN OFFICE IT WAS SURGEON" so I transferred her to the supervisor. I gave her a head's up and I can still see her line is busy. I can't wait to hear what my supervisor says about this.
