Hello! I am interviewing for high school nurse position and was looking for any tips/advice??

I have interviewed before for an elementary and thought the interview went SO good but I didn't get the position! I really want this as it is something I have always wanted and works great for my kids schedule! My current experience is 7 years NICU with transport nurse and charge nurse experience (which I REALLY played up on my last interview).

Please any advice and tips will be greatly appreciated as I am sooo nervous!!!

Thanks!!

Find out as much as you can about your school district and what kind of kids go there. Are there a lot of special needs? ESL?

Look at your state's website, for example, we have nysed for NY.

Ask questions- are you working alone?

What can YOU bring to the role?

Good luck!

Oh, and it's okay you can tell them, I'm a little nervous, I really want this job!

...but then don't make it all about the schedule and how your life will be better, but how much better their life will be for hiring you!

I just finished the interview process for my successor and the candidate that was #1 for us spoke confidently, made eye contact, stopped and thought a few seconds before answering questions. She was able to relate examples of independent thinking, using judgement, providing education, dealing with parents. She had an answer ready when asked what strengths she brings to the job. She asked about job responsibilities, student population, hours distribution. She had a clue what an IEP, IHP, 504 are. She mentioned FERPA when speaking about confidentiality. (bonus points!) She has never worked in a school setting before, so she did a little research before coming to the interview.

Good luck!

But leather chaps and spurs are just fine.

Agree on the scrubs. I did wear mine to my second interview, but that was because they were accommodating me and I was heading in to work- I told them, "Thank you for accommodating me! I will be wearing scrubs for this interview!"
